I watched them in this order. Cannell, 'cause he's the genius behind it all. Culp, because he's the coolest of the cool. Katt, 'cause he played the lead.
Then I stopped watching the interviews and went back to the episodes. I didn't think I'd be interested in anything Pare or Sellecca had to say. I finally got around to watching tose two, and boy was I wrong.
Pare's was cool because he's talking about what it was like to be a young actor, just starting out, and about how GAH was a period of "firsts" for him. I really got a sense of what fun he and the other actors playing the students must have had.
Sellecca's was more entertaining and engaging than I thought it would be, too.

They all were great. I was very surprised that they gave us 75 minutes worth! Loved Cannell's detail about fighting with the network. Only a little info about that came out during the shows run, but even as a kid, early in the 2nd season I could tell something was going on. I also liked Katt bringing up the rough patch he and Culp went through while developing a working relationship. Sellecca also had a nice bit, and it was nice of her to share the Halloween photo, and to stick around and chat with Pare. They sounded as if they were having a great time reliving those memories.

Well I haven't gotten my DVD set yet, but I am eagerly awaiting them. The interviews may actually be what I am most looking forward too. I always got the impression that people had fun making GAH and that the writers and actors had smiles on their faces while writing a scene or rehearsing something.

Boooyahhh!! I got my DVDs yesterday on Friday, and I am still up tonight on Saturday morning watching them!! They are great and the interviews are awesome. I have some thoughts about the interviews that I will get to later. I might call it a night pretty soon. Quick comment on one thing--- It is weird seeing these actors (Katt, Sellecca, the kids from the class) at ages 45+. I still imagine them all in the extremely young 22 to 30 age range like they were back in the early 1980s. They were soooo young back then. I even still think of Robert Culp as being around a spunky young 50 years old, instead of the over 70 guy like he is today. Culp looks fantastic for his age though. Holy crap, I'm already older then the "young crowd" from GAH when it started out in 1981, except William Katt. But I am getting close to Katt's age when the show premiered. So soon I will be the older then everyone (obvious exception to Culp and someone like William Bogert), or at best the same age as Katt. If I time traveled back to 1981, Sellecca and the class would look at me, a man in his late 20s as "one of the adults" as Connie Sellecca said they viewed her. And Connie was only 25 when the show started out. This all reminds you how fleeting youth is. Sigh, I am not looking forward to getting older. But hey,... Connie Sellecca is still so gorgeous. Her beauty defies age. -scenario-

"45+" is actually being kind. Sellecca and Pare are both 49, I believe; and Katt is well into his 50s. In fact, Katt is older now than Culp was when GAH ended it's run.
I was in 7th grade when GAG premiered, now I'm about 6 years older than Katt was then, and 14 years younger than Culp was. Holey F-ing mackerel! I'm only 14 years younger than RC was when GAH started!

Well 14 years is still a pretty big age gap, and you are certainly not old at age 36. We're not really "gettin' old" until we cross the 60 year age mark IMO. But I definately know how you feel, ever since I crossed the age of 24, thoughts like that have been in my mind whereas before that I never even thought about it and walked around thinking of myself as a kid.
Connie Sellecca will turn 50 this year. Faye Grant turns 48 this year. I don't know how old Jesse D. Goins is and lord only knows anything about Don Cervantes. Michael Pare said he was 22 when he first did GAH, so I just figured he would be around 45 today, or perhaps 46 and going on 47. I can understand why Sellecca would have wanted to hang out with "the kids" and party with them. They were only 2-3 years, maximum 5 younger then her and was part of her peer group. She should have been hangin' with them. Even Katt should have been hanging with "the kids" and in the age range of dating Faye Grant.
I have to say it's kinda neat seeing that despite being older, Michael Pare still has that Tony Villicanna punk kid streak in him. (If there is a new movie he wants to be an FBI agent like Maxwell because that's "a cool character" opposed to whoever has the suit and flails around in it trying to control it's powers)

"Connie Sellecca is still so gorgeous. Her beauty defies age." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Must be from using the Sellecca Solution. I was actually watching that infomercial at 4am the other morning at work. A couple of people walked by giving me curious looks...lol
That wasn't a bad idea Pare had about Tony becoming a FBI agent. We all know eventually a part of Bill came around to like Tony, regardless if he ever admitted it. I could have seen Tony, with not much choice with what to do with his life joining the military. Then afterwards, getting out and going to Maxwell for help getting in with the feds.
Too bad if the movie version is ever made, it will no doubt feature a new cast, with no connection to the old show except for the name and basic premise. I'd sure like to ask Katt whatever happened to the version he hoped to do in the mid-90's. For it to actually be mentioned in a newspaper article, then on The Howard Stern Show when Katt was a guest, means to me some wheels were turning somewhere.

I thought it was interesting how Pare brought up the episode about the students starting a band and getting an audition, (season2), and how he didnt have any musical talent so he just became the manager. But after that season he went on and did Eddie & the Cruisers. ;D

Yeah while I was watching my set for the first time last night I watched the pilot and then skipped to the interviews and then watched GAHeroine.
While watching the Pare interview I was thinking: "Wouldnt it be cool to continue the story into a movie with Pare's character being mentored by Culp's then joing the FBI?" I was then blown away that seconds later they repeated it. Funny.
The interviews were great and I feel fortunate that they all came on to do them.

But after that season he went on and did Eddie & the Cruisers. ;D Yes I always thought it was possible that Jessie Goins and Don Cervantes were really playing with Faye Grant doing the vocals. After all if they all were faking, why get some guy we had never seen before play the drums? If that was the case Pare could have faked that.

For me it was cool also to hear thier fond memories of each other and the show. I get bummed when shows I like are hated by the cast's who played in them. Like Checkov from Trek.

I'm really curious what kinda of extras will be on seasons 2 & 3 (if any)
I thought the interviews were great, it was just terrific hearing what all these people thought about the series 20 years later.

It would be great to see 80's vintage interviews, any promos/teasers, behind-the-scenes footage or bloopers.
Something tells me we won't see them but aside from commentary tracks (I thought it was puzzling Cannell didn't do one for the pilot) that would be my wish list.
I have the feeling that Culp and Sellecca did have more fun with the show than Katt did. Not to say he didn't see appeal in the part and enjoy working on it, but he obviously thought it hurt his career in the long term for a while. It's a shame, but considering his point of view, somewhat understandable. He seems to think fondly of it nowadays but hindsight's 20/20.
I hope we get to hear more from Cannell about the development of Season 2 and 3 as well as the cancellation.

And a Culp commentary at least on the episode he wrote would be outstanding (his commentary on the final two volumes of I SPY, which focused exclusively on the episodes he wrote/directed, is my favorite commentary of all time!)

I loved the interviews too, but I thought Katt looked terrible, even compared to Culp (then again, Culp always looks great). And Sellecca... mmmmm...

Yeah Katt showed his age the most. Odd since I'd seen condid and formal pics of him over the last few years and he seemed to be aging rather well until I saw that interview.
I'd love a Culp commentary on vanity and Lilacs if they let him do it. I'd be very curious to ge this insights on Vanity to see if he'd shed any light on why he made some of the choices he did.
I too love his I Spy commentary though. I know some who can't get into it because it's not very screen specific for the first three episodes but that's because he was reading a collected/edited version of his own I Spy/memoirs book he never finished (which is part of the reason he's reluctant to be interviewed by others for such a retrospective I Spy book). Coupled with Earle Hagen and Sheldon Leonard's autobiographies- they make a fascinating account of the production of that show.

I too would love to hear Culp's comments on Lilac's and Vanity, especially Vanity. Lilac's I'd just like to know why he allowed them to dub in those goofy screams. I stopped on the I Spy's before the Culp episodes. I'llhave to pick them up sometime to hear his thoughts. Plus I had no idea that Hagen and Leonard had autobiographies available. I'll have to pick those up, thanks for adding that information!

In all fairness to Katt, we should all look that good and young at 54. Hell, I'm 36 and I don't look that young or good.
I love Culp as an actor and writer. He's the coolest of the cool. But who would your rather look like in your mid 50s, mid 50s Katt or mid 50s Culp?
