At times it does for me. When I was watching the interviews today, they kept showing clips from the series...about half of the clips I honestly could not tell what episode they were from. This is from me, a mega die hard GAH fan that has seen every episode. But about half of the clips they showed, I was like, "what in the world episode is that from where Ralph and Bill are just walking along or Ralph and Pam are talking!?" I am fairly certain at the season, but I honestly forgot about many of the scenes they were showing.
The picture quality is usually so clear, I never noticed the smoke around Bill's car after Agent Macke and the alien ship left them out in the desert. There are SO MANY little things like that I believe we are all noticing for the first time. And I have a master copy of the pilot that is super clear...but nowhere near this type of detail.
A couple of nitpicks on the pilot:
1. The early scenes had some grain to it...the skinheads chasing Agent Macke down, Ralph and Ray talking and the drive to the diner. Lots of grain IMO, not disturbingly bad, but it was noticeable enough to me. But the grain seemed to dissappear after awhile and the picture became super sharp.
2. And like others have said, the music that plays during Ralph and Pam's drive to Nelson Corey's compound is TERRIBLE. I can put up with the music changes during the class driving towards the diner and the new music that replaced "Space Oddity" when Ralph loses the instruction book. They were different, but not too bad and sorta still fit the mood of the moment. Although neither really sounded like they were from the early 80s, which was mildy distracting. BUT that loud, hard rock crap music they played during what was supposed to be "Rocketman" was just abysmal. It's too distracting and doesn't sound natural for the scene at all.
Despite that, this is still a great DVD set. I love it!!! The music changes won't keep me from buying at least one more set and recommending them to others. I think it's rather silly and kinda crazy that some fans want to actually boycott these DVDs and/or cancel their orders. My God, what the hell is that going to accomplish? Don't they realize how important sales are to the future of more DVDs and the overall GAH franchise?
EDIT: I watched bits of the pilot again, and I see/hear that the song that plays when Ralph loses the instruction book, and then later during the Ralph/Pam drive to Corey's compound is the same freakin' song. They don't go into the whole annoying loud chorus during the instruction book scene, and that plays way better. But the drive to the compound is still just awful IMHO. I think most people that watch that scene can tell that song is not natural for that scene in the slightest, it just feels too awkward and cheesy.
