Sorry - so much G.A.H. to catch up recently that I'm just now starting to bump into things people wrote a little while ago... I think TVShrine's post here KICKS ASS: disc.server.com/discussion.cgi?id=59036;article=5342;show_parent=1I was waiting for someone to write something like this, and I completely agree. It IS nickle and dime crap and we definitely should complain... in the right way. And let me be clear, I love the DVD - picture quality is outstanding, extras a real treat. But it is a SHAM that the extra bucks weren't shelled out to keep COVER tunes intact (beautifully performed by Joey, by the way, which is something no one has really brought up - these great versions of those songs are GONE now - a true shame). And cover tunes that worked PERFECTLY within the show. Anyway, venting. Buy the DVD, enjoy it, then let Cannell know in every way shape and form that you want the show the way it was. Be polite, but be heard.

Okay, so, since I was still in the womb when the pilot and first season premiered, I wasn't sure if the music on the pilot in the dvd was right, or if the pilot as I'd seen in on FX some 9 years ago was right. It isn't the same without "Help Me Rhonda", "Space Oddity", and "Rocket Man". . . sure, I've seen the 15 minutes of film that network TV cuts out, but if that hadn't been there and the original music had been kept, I wouldn't know the difference. And the music they replaced it with doesn't gel with the time period, either.

It's weird. I'm not at all upset with the music. I was so into wacthing my fave show again, that the music really flew over my head.
What I did love was the background music. That's what caught my ear. That good 'ol 70s-early 80s music that was essential is the best TV shows. Love that instrumental sound that changes with moods and situations. Like Wonder Woman and all them had it.

Agreed!! Mike Post's background score can not be praised enough. A lot of my favorite GAH scenes (as well as other Cannell shows) are inextricably tied to the specific music that Mike Post put there. Never (well, almost never) generic background music, it was always something specifically written for that scene and very well suited. A few quick hits: Pilot: Ralph's escape from the psych ward. The Hit Car: the fight at the beach house, and Ralph chasing the van. Divorce, Venusian Style: Ralph interrogates the Nazi in the wild blue yonder.

I'd love to have a CD with some of the score used within the series. I can think of plenty of tracks played several times within the series I'd love to own on disc.

Ah, no way, Greenguy! If they did THAT, then how would they manage to fit in that awesome 'Japanese' language track??? LOL

Seemed strange to me that "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys" could retain the title yet lose that one verse and chorus at the end that tied it all together!

I haven't seen Greatest American Hero since the original airings back in '81.. etc. It has always been one of my favorite shows of that period but I have been living a crazy life (too much work) and never caught it in re-runs over the years.
When I watched the DVD episode of "my hero's have always been cowboys"... I actually cried at the end!!!
One question though.... I loved the closing song "how I wish that I was young again and free:... etc. Please tell me that I am not emotionally moved by a song that was never in the episode???

Yes. In fact, you are. But you're right. That's one song change that was made where they at least picked a replacment song that FIT the scene it was in. The same can't be said for the scenes were other songs were replaced (see: Rocket Man, Eve Of Destruction...)
