Received the Japanese DVD Box Set #2 for G.A.H. yesterday. It contains The Best Desk Scenario and the first 8 episodes from season two. Watched Operation Spoilsport yesterday. Quality is AWESOME and all music is intact (and sounds great). Something to consider for those (like me) who are furious about the music changes. The packaging is very nice too, and even contains a 'comic book' sketch of Pam's face. One warning though... it ain't cheap!

Does anyone know whether the Japanese DVD set 1 had original music intact, or whether there was the same music replacements as the Region 1 DVD? And if the original music WAS intact on the Japanese version, what's the difference in licensing standards that screws up the U.S. versions?

If this is the case, that the Japanese releases have the original music intact... I am placing my order immediatley!

What about "Classical Gas", all the original music intact? What about the other episodes?
BTW, as we've discussed elsewhere, we have seen some evidence that "Eve of Destruction" will remain intact on the Season Two DVD. Look at (and listen to) the brief clip of "Operation: Spoilsport" during the Season One special features interviews. You can hear the original music.
The same can not be said of the clips from "Classical Gas" or "The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea".

Well, Operation Spoilsport is just the way we remember it. And I've been told from a friend that owns the first 4 boxes that ALL the music is intact - unchanged, from what all know and love.
I have another set (Box #4) on the way. I'll see if the cover songs are intact there too but, so far, it appears that the Japanese DVD releases contain everything we were hoping for from the USA releases (minus the pilot, which they did not include - don't ask me why).

[glow=red,2,300]P.S.[/glow] Another thought - it appears the people behind the Japanese DVD release might also feel that the latter half of the third season is below average, as they stuck The Resurrection Of Carlini and Heaven Is In Your Genes on box #4 and then are waiting for box #5 to include This Is The One The Suit Was Meant For and The Newlywed Game. Smart move, as it levels the 'quality' of the episodes on both of those sets, don't you think?

I prefer the episodes to be presented in the order in which they were produced, not the order in which some Japanese video company thinks they should be viewed. However, it's a small price to play to have the original music included.
I am really interested in these sets, but they are pricey. How is the quality of the first season episodes compared to the version released here? Do they look they were taken from the same source? Was the pilot released separately?
I am going to wait and see if seasons two and three are changed before I go nuts.

The video is just as good. In fact, on a couple of episodes (The Best Desk Scenario is a good example) the intro and the episode are slightly brighter, and even clearer. They appear to be from the same source. Audio quality is also the same.

You mean can you choose Japanese sub-titles and Japanese language? If so, then yes to both.
