First of all, kudos to DeepDiscountDVD for getting it to me 3 days before the official release date.
I've only watched "The 200 Mile-an-Hour Fastball" so far. On the positive side, the picture is of the same unbelieveably great quality as Season One. The color, clarity, and sharpness is second season GAH as we've never seen it before.
On the negative side, apparently no teasers. WTF? Now greenguy claimed there weren't in-house teasers for the first season even when they originally aired. Honestly, that's not the way I remember it; but we didn't get our first VCR until November 1981, so I can't prove it. To my (admittedly 24 year old) recollection, Season One was originally broadcast with the same in-house teasers as every other Cannell show of that era. Regardless, Season Two I still have on tape from the original network broadcasts. Not that anyone has said Season Two didn't have teasers to begin with...
I think this bothers me more than the changes in music. Cannell was the master of the in-house teaser back then. Compare his stuff to the Knight Rider Teasers, or Remington Steele, or any of the others.
October 29, 1982: the instrumental theme starts, with expertly edited cuts of the ship overhead and Culp's dialog, something to the effect of, "not that ship, with the buzzin' and the lights". Cut to the radio tuner, "out and...readyfor...transportation". Cut to Ralph and Bill being beamed up, "Tell them I was just kiddin' about callin' them little green creeps". Cut to, "We got the instruction book"! etc, etc, etc
I'm going from memory here, but those teasers were artfully crafted pep rallies. I was there to see the game anyway, but, damn, a kick-ass Cannell-teaser got me all the more stoked at the start. "Hog Wild" also comes to mind as being an exceptionally good teaser. I'm not saying they were all brilliant works of art.
