Don't get me wrong, they SHOULD be there, but I don't understand why many are saying they're more important than the songs - as nostalgia, perhaps, but aren't they just coming attractions? I mean, a new viewer will still love the show without them, cuz of course it's the show itself that all the teaser stuff came from (I know sometimes there's extra footage, but...) -- but a new viewer will simply not "get" OPERATION SPOILSPORT without the songs. In fact, on COLUMBO, I DON"T like seeing the teaser right before the episode cuz it gives away too much of what is going to happen. If they were gonna give em, I'd say give us the teaser as an option...
So again, I'm not trying to prove you guys wrong, I'm just curious why you think they're more important than the songs -- cuz if Cannell said I'd give you one of those, I'd definitely say the SONGS! THE SONGS!!!!!! Would you really rather have the teasers, and if so, why?

Well, I can only speak for myself - I think the songs are far more important than the teasers. But I think the point that was made at one point was that although there might be SOME reason for the changes to the songs (money, even if small and petty), there really is NO such reason for cutting the teasers (that we know of). We know they exist, OTHER Cannell DVD releases had them, so WTF?! Looks like someone just didn't care enough to include them, or forgot, or whatever.

the ONLY thing they might do is put them ALL on season 3.
So far I've only bought the first season of Starsky and Hutch, but on that set all the episode trailers are in one place and you can watch them all one after another or pick the one you want.
But as far as the teasers, they are no where near as important as the missing cover tunes.

They're important because they are a part of the show. So it's like we are missing the opening overture of each episode. The teaser fiasco effects every episode too. Plus teasers were such a cool thing from that time period of the 70s and 80s. We don't have them anymore in any "modern" TV show from the 90s to the present day 2005, hell I think they dissappeared from most TV shows by the late 80s,.....so it's such a treat seeing these old shows again with the opening teasers completely intact. They got you jazzed up for the show and were totally entertaining in their own right.
The songs are important too, and I agree that Operation: Spoilsport is ruined and just f*cked up without "Eve of Destruction". I'm not sure if I can again compare "which is worse", the lack of teasers or the over-dubbing of certain songs....(or the opening credit changes to Connie Sellecca and Don Cervantes) since both/and all situations suck.
The teasers being gone is such a shock too, no one saw this one coming. We at least deserve an explanation about what happened to the teasers. Season 2 DVD is sorta bittersweet for me. I LOVE having it, (it's still TGAH, almost anyways) the picture and sound is so cool, but there are so many other things that got really f*cked up here. But it's like Greedo shooting Han Solo first in the Star Wars: A New Hope Special Edition.....it sucks that George Lucas did that, and some of the 1997 CGI doesn't mix well the 1977 print, but it was still so cool having Star Wars again, especially on DVD.

Actually what they've placed on the Starsky & Hutch sets aren't the teasers. They are actually station promos for when the series was in one of it's syndication runs. On the end of the promo, when you see the title Starsky & Hutch with the animated road, that's the point the station would have supered the day and time the show aired. Or the point a voiceover would have said something like: "watch Starsky & Hutch weekdays at 5:00, on channel 7."

I couldn't have summed it up any better than what Scenario has already said. The footage not seen in the finshed episode is also a bonus for me. Also they are a great example of 30 seconds (or in the case of Who's Woo....60 seconds) of creative editing. Since I'm a editor myself, I can appreciate the creativity that went into cutting them. Also I'm buying the sets for uncut episodes, and they are not totally uncut if the teasers are missing. 1st season okay...I can deal with that since ABC produced them, the remaining 2 season no. Especially when the teasers for Hunter are intact.
BUT what was done to Operation: Spoilsport & especially Classical Gas is horrible. CG actually comes up a couple of minutes short do to the monkey business with the music.

The only consolation I can find is that 'Classical Gas' isn't COMPLETELY ruined like 'Spoilsport' is because of the changes. Bad editing aside, I think missing "Eve" hurts the episode a lot more then the missing songs n CG.
