Yes, it's my fave show and love it like no other...but... as I read over the descriptions of the 2nd season, just can't help but to groan at some of them... Like ever think, 'what were they thinking'...? Ghosts...voodoo...sea serpents... Good golly, how unbelievable cheesy. *groans again* I prefer when the show sticks with the true evil of the world. Guess I never really noticed it all when I was younger.

Ah, that's what made the show... and the cheesy special effects. I mean... right?

'what were they thinking'...? Ghosts...voodoo...sea serpents... Well, that's what Cannell was talking about in the Season One Special Features interview; after Season One a new regime took over at the network and kept trying to force them to do all that crap and worse. Cannell fought hard and made the best compromises he could at the time. All that crazy crap that wasn't there in Season One, that's the network "geniuses" trying to "improve" the show.

I've been sharing the DVDs with my children (12 year old son and 8 year old daughter). While they love the show, the devil in the deep blue sea made their appreciation waver momentarily. My son laughed uncontrollably for several minutes at the sight of the sea monster, and when my daughter saw it a few days later she said simply, "Now that's a toy."

Oh, and It's All Downhill From Here was just so bad, I didn't even finish watching it. I couldn't. I'm sure I endured it as a child, but if so I remember nothing. A truly terrible episode. Granted, I only saw a few minutes of it, but the acting (esp. Pam & Ralph with each other) was atrocious. The Voodoo and sea monster episodes had much better acting, even if the stories and/or effects were bad.
But then, I've yet to see "Little Tokyo" and some of those unaired Season 3 eps. From what I've read, those are even worse. Zoinks!

Sometimes with GAH I am not sure if they were purposefully trying to be a bit cheesy and silly. The sea monster looked so bad, I always figured that shot was just for fun. I doubt anyone thought that people would think that looked real. Then there's "The Shock will Kill You", about a space monster, it's not a great episode by any means. But I like to pretend like it was all done on purpose as a homage to '50s B monster movies. If you look at it that way, then TSWKY suddenly becomes a much better episode.

And funny that way, too.
