I tried to send Cannel an email at his contact me address from his website but have not even received a courtesy response. Someone posted a mailing address for Cannell. Is that the best way to be heard? I wonder if we should start a petition listing our grievances.

I don't think emails (or phone calls, if we even had a number) are nearly as effective as writing an actual letter to him and sending it the old fashioned way - that seems to get noticed more than the other methods. Sure couldn't hurt. Here's Cannell's mailing address:
Stephen J. Cannell 7083 Hollywood Blvd. Suite 600 Hollywood, CA 90028

I might add here, though, not to mention that anyone is buying them from another resource, as he may go on a real witch hunt for his competition.

Yeah I am concered that not only will he deny us a true release of these episodes, but he will go after those who would do what he would not.

Yes, exactly. Not a good way to repay the people who have gone to the trouble to make the shows available in their original form.

in my opinion. bootlegers helped keep interest in the show alive when there was nothing else.
if you offer a superior product. owners of bootlegs would upgrade and buy the official stuff. but when what you offer is less than that, you are playing with fire.
cannell must have missed that lesson 'keeping a fan base 101'

Yeah, I'd agree it's probably not wise to go "Hey, because of what you did, I bought a full set of bootlegs, so sit and spin, Stephen J.!!!". However, if you purchased the Japanese DVDs as an alternative, I'm wondering if that might not be a bad thing to mention, as I'm guessing that takes some money out of Cannell's pocket as opposed to buying the USA release, right?
