I have all of season 2 and season 3 uncut and commercial free with all of the songs intact. Should I spend $26 just to have the extras? Are the extras worthwhile? I know they have a photo gallery and interviews with Mike Post and Stephen Cannell. I hate to waste $26 just to see a few interviews and the photo gallery unless it is worth it. One of the episodes I have on DVD is very grainy (the Hand Painted Thai). Those who purchased the DVD, is it worth the $26?
Thanks!

Yeah, I would say, to get the extras and such, it's worth it. Plus those are best quality episodes you'll see, aside from the Japanese DVDs. So, for those episodes that WEREN'T altered, I'd be watching THOSE on the USA DVD set.

I don't know the picture quality of your copies (vhs? dvd?), but is it worth it JUST for the extras for 26 bucks? If 26 bucks is a concern (it would be me) I might say no -- the Cannell interview is good and lengthy, but to see it more than once is not likely a necessity, and I haven't watched the Mike Post interview yet (Though as a Cannell fan, I suspect this too could be interesting). The photo gallery is OK, but wouldn't be worth it for me, yet the script IS kind of interesting (but I dabble in screenwriting). The picture quality of all the eps and the overall quality of the non-tampered episodes is quite good -- but if you have excellent quality (save "Tai") versions of the eps, I can't really say the release is a must-have.

I'd say it's worth it for the picture quality, alone. Plus, if what you have is on videotape, you never know when your machine is going to get hungry and start eating an episode. Happened to me with "Heaven is in Your Genes".

I will break it down and let you decide for yourself. The video quality is excellent. As for the extras, I wouldn't spend $26 for that alone but the dvds can be broken down into four categories.
1. Unaltered episodes. Great. 2. Altered slightly, but not noticible unless you just have a great memory. Examples of these are Saturday on Sunset Boulevard and Reseda Rose where you would honestly never know there were alterations if you hadn't grown up with the show. These are not a big deal with me. 3. Altered noticibly but without major impact. Examples include My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys and Don't Mess Around with Jim where the songs upon which the titles were based have been removed, but in both cases, the songs were just briefly played at the end of the episode and therefore do not have a major impact upon the enjoyment of the show. 4. Butchery!!! Examples are the Pilot, Operation: Spoilsport, and Classical Gas where any person, whether they have ever seen the show or not, would obviously notice that the show has been altered and music changed. This is savagery, but fortunately, there are only a few episodes where it is that obvious, so the question is ....
How good are your DVDs. Personally, I would keep my DVDs but go ahead and buy the set. I would then watch the unaltered episodes, and perhaps the slightly altered (depending on the quality of your own DVDs) . Is it worth it? That, my friend, depends on you and geek worthiness.
