Well, after learning that EoD was removed from OS I just had to get bootlegs instead of the official versions. I could live with the first season because (with the exception of the pilot), it wasn't that strong of a season. However, the show really hit its stride in season 2.
I picked up the DVDs from someone on this site for $40 (Season 2 & 3) and the quality is very good. I'd really rather have the official versions since they come on far less DVDs than my sets, but I can't live with the song replacements. There were so many good ones in season 2!
Now I just need to get some quad DVD cases, and I can make some artwork and stick them in my DVD collection. Anyone else picking up bootlegs in light of the butchering that has taken place on these sets?

I forgot to mention that all of the teasers were added on a separate disc. SCORE!

I picked up the bootlegs too, I am sad to say However, the release of the Season 2 DVDs left me no choice. I hate to cheat the show by going this route but if the release was intact, I would not have to do so. It's sad that we are left with this choice. I too am happy with my bootlegs. I have all of the songs and the teasers.

I'm honestly thinking of doing the same thing for Season 2.
The music changes in Season one I can live with. Execpt for the pilot, the regular episode music changes don't bother me a whole lot.
Season 2 however, is different. So far what I've watched, only 2 seem really ruined to me, - OS and Class Gas. I still have to watch the rest to see.

There is no "Taxman" in There's Just No Accounting.

I could live with that. A lot of cover songs were great, don't get me wrong, but in some episodes it doesn't have the impact as Eve of D does in OS.
So stuff like Taxman missing or Help Me Rhonda or Don't Mess around with Jim is miminal to the impact that Eve has in OS or the badly editing Class Gas.
I still wonder if they even TRIED to get rights and found out they were too expensive or just didn't bother in the first place.
I would imagine certian songs would be cheaper to license then others.

I thought "IT'S A BEAUTIFUL MORNING" was a good song to have at the end of OS because it went along with the story line.

All the cover songs in OS were perfect for the episode.

I just used my birthday money to purchase the Season 2 release. I liked the photo gallery but I could have done without yet another interview with Cannell and the japanese version of 200 mile. If I knew japanese it would be fun to watch. I really liked the clarity of the episodes that didn't have ruined songs.

I'm getting the bootlegs for Season 2 and 3. I'm glad I bought the official Season 1, because I loved all of the interviews, and I do want to support the "official" effort. I'm willing to buy the official Season 3 also, if they will add some more interviews, including Faye Grant. It would be great to get the three main stars together with the "kids", in a kind of group discussion of the show. I wouldn't care how much more Season 3 cost, if they had something like that on there.
Dream on, I know.

There better be a Don Cervantes interview or else Stephen Cannell will attacked by a swarm of cheap loafers, with "Eve Of Destruction" blaring from everyone's stereo, iPod, TV, etc., come release date!!!

But seriously, the true fans who are buying the legal DVD's want to see the episodes the way they were originally aired, and if the music companies have to be greedy pr*cks on old skool shows being put on DVD, then asking for a billion dollars, they're practically telling the consumers to go bootleg, plain and simple. Does anyone know where I can get a complete WKRP collection?

they're practically telling the consumers to go bootleg, plain and simple. True, they should have thought of the consequences ahead. Now I noticed that most of the deluded Season 1 customers gradually buy their DVDs from bootleggers so who's gonna buy the official Season 3 if not mere TGAH-Cannell supporters?.. They decided to fly low on TGAH budget as they had modest revenue expectations on the DVDs release; they call it the "entrepreneur risk". For someone just as rich purchasing song licences is nothing, at least it's for the sake of reviving their glorious '80s series... Anyway, this blooming bootlegs trade speaks for itself.

HEY NO NAME CALLING ;D </CapsLock> ;D It's just my worst assumption on how things are going to be when SEason 3 will come out. Just people like us will support and turn our back to bootleggers but how about all those out there who have heard rumors of missing songs and want the full thing.. I want the nice DVDs with the extras, when I got some pocket savings on the side I may consider also buying from Japan for the songs. Although this thread might look a bit on the negative, bootlegs are not for me.. if that's what you mean by "name calling" well that's my name too up there next to yours.

but still buy the official cause i want to send the signal that i want more product. so do I, it's not just for that but also for a sort of personal contribution.. as in the elections where every vote can make a difference. And btw, I also think they are buzzing on the forum sometimes (who wouldn't, being their show object of discussion?)
