[glow=red,2,900]Time to be heard. You've probably seen all the 'new' versions of the season 1 and 2 episodes from the USA DVDs. Which episode do you think suffered the most damage? My top 3 would be The Pilot, Classical Gas and Operation: Spoilsport, with Spoilsport at the top of the list. Anyone else?[/glow]

I just found out that there is a DVD of the show and an ACTIVE message board on a very WELL DONE site! I ordered the first season DVD thru eBay...I hope I won't be disappointed! At this point, I'm just happy to see them at all, especially without commercials.

I have to say the episode most altered music wise is "Operation Spoilsport". I mean not to beat a dead horse (and I think there is nothing but skeletal remains now) but the dialogue references "Eve of Destruction" and the whole episode was based around the song and then it gets cut. I can understand the pilot having a few cut songs and okay, one or two from Classical Gas but not from OS.
There I said my peace!!!

I'd say the changes to "Classical Gas" bothered me the most, though "Operation: Spoilsport" was a close second as they left in the mention of "Eve of Destruction" in the show.
After seeing screen caps taken of L.A. Freeway's performance at the concert, such as Rhonda singing next to Cyler and Rodriguez, I realized that a lot of the emotion of the scene was also taken out. Also, Rhonda's movements don't match with the beat of the song, so the song reads out of place. In most of the other episodes, the changes were not as obvious, although you can tell some are out of place. "Classical Gas" gets a double whammy as you can visually see that places had been cut, i.e. Rhonda's face not being shown to hide the song change.

Yeah, I'd agree that Classical Gas was the worst in a certain way because they actually chopped footage, so the episode can't even be considered 'uncut' anymore - a true shame. But I voted for OS (close call) because that 's my favorite episode of the entire series, so it hurt just a little more to hear all those songs missing when I watched the USA DVD.

OMG! The anticipation is killing me. I can't wait to get my DVD's! "Classical Gas"..wasn't Rhonda singing "Brass In Pocket " by the Pretenders? I haven't seen ANY episodes since high school.

I feel a lot less guilty about getting those bootlegs for season 2&3 now. I got the official release of the first season, which I am glad about because of the interviews, but now I'm tempted to get the bootleg for season 1, just to see the difference in the pilot!

Actually, the pilot wasn't included in the Japanese Season 1 DVDs. It is all by its lonesome.

Correct. And I should have it in hand sometime this week. Hopefully, it's all 'original' music like all the other Japanese DVDs (fingers crossed) - ROCKET MAN!!! SPACE ODDITY!!! HELP ME RHONDA!!! Whoo-hoo!!!

Indeed, I voted SPOILSPORT even though GAS is pretty screwed-up just because GAS isn't a particularly good episode, while Spoilsport is. And the pilot, while "screwed up", is simply too good -- I still enjoy it, even when pissed off -- Spoilsport really loses something!

Yeah, I agree because there are still certain scenes in the pilot you can watch fully (the entire finale, for example) without any song 'changes' getting in the way. And I LOVE how crystal clear the final scene is where the ship comes back - the quality of the DVD is incredible.

I FINALLY got my 1st season DVD! It has been over 20 years and I am happier than a pig in you-know-what! We did'nt get a VHS recorder until '84 and cable until '86. (This close to NY & Philly, it reasn't really wasn't needed.)
I noticed that there are quite a few scenes where Ralph looks likes he's screaming, but no sound is coming out of his mouth. Also, the "Heroine" episode had some lighting issues..too dark. Overall, I'm just happy that the series on DVD. Now let's work on "Hardcastle" Mr. Cannell.
Bill Maxwell still rocks!

I would have voted for The Shock Will Kill You, but it wasn't on the list. I really miss that "Shave and a Haircut" song...

Classical Gas was technically butchered the most but Spoilsport really pissed me off!

I think that HOG WILD and SPOILSPORT lost a lot of good energy and foreshadowing songs. However, the replacement songs in both do a good job of covering, especially since EVE OF DESTRUCTION is about Vietnam and does not fit right into the mold. I can't remember some of the music changes to CLASSICAL GAS. Can someone remind me? The other episodes I remember most of the changes, but not all. Out of the list above, keeping in my mind, my previous comments, I would say probably the pilot, but I can't be sure until I can remember all of the song changes.

Gotta say Classical Gas, only because as stated above the episode is no longer uncut.

Oh come on...people don't see that WIZARDS AND WARLOCKS is the most hurt by not having PINBALL WIZARD still be a part of it?
