hey, what a great picture the Japanese have on their DVDs! THEY know how to market a product: they released it at a later time with a great sleeve and on its own like it's a rarity to have, probably that would trigger a response even from those who were undecided when the other Jap. dvds came out.

[glow=purple,2,900]QUICK UPDATE! Just received 'The Pilot' on Japanese DVD in the mail today - turns out there is a 'bonus DVD' inside that contains The Greatest American Heroine!
More later![/glow]

[glow=purple,2,900]Turns out the Japanese release of 'The Pilot' DOES include all of the ORIGINAL music, in 100% perfect quality, as I had hoped! So GOOD NEWS about 'The Pilot'!!!
Also, just checked the 'bonus' Heroine DVD - It contains not only Heroine, but all the interviews that the USA first season DVD set did - so I guess it's basically very much like the last DVD in the USA season one set. Very cool.[/glow]

I wouldn't exactly call a copy of 'Heroine' a "bonus", but I guess it's cool. I hate the US versions even more now.

Yeah, I thought that would be the one thing that made the USA versions 'better' in a way, because overseas DVDs usually don't include the same 'extras'. This time, they did it right. And the quality is exactly the same, so no 'disadvantages'!

Are these playable on American machines, and where do I buy them?

I just got my 2nd season DVD's...now I know what everyone was so pissed off about! Holy cow, I could'nt beleive what they did to the soundtrack. I though I'd be happy just having GAH on DVD, but I'm really shocked! Has anyone complied a list of songs that were cut? I distinctly remember "Sounds of Silence", "Bad Moon Rising", and "Brass In Pocket" being used in GAH episodes. (I hope I'm not going senile). I'm thinking of burning my own "Best of GAH" CD from the 7000+ songs I have on my external hard drive.

I know what you mean. It pissed me off so much that I dug out my old VHS tapes of the show and was going to edit my own version with the DVD video and the old VHS audio until I found out about the Japanese versions and bought them.

It makes me wonder why they waited until LAST to release the Pilot on Japanese DVD. I wonder if it had something, anything to do with the music changes in general. Maybe the Japanese DVDs sold better than they thought they would. God knows the USA versions did...

I'm thinking of burning my own "Best of GAH" CD from the 7000+ songs I have on my external hard drive. Um, were all these songs sung by Joey Scarbury then? I faintly remember the music from years ago, but I'm still annoyed that I didn't get the actual show that I had originally watched. Ah yes, a soundtrack from the show would be heaven. woo hoo! ;D (and by the way, that DVD cover is so awesome!!!... how embarrassing for us, that in our own country, we can't even get a decent cover of 'The Greatest AMERICAN Hero'...they're laughing a us)

There were a number of songs in the show, but I, for one, do not remember any of those songs (Bad Moon Rising or Sound of Silence) and I did see the syndicated TV episodes a few years back.

I remember "Sounds Of Silence" and "Bad Moon Rising" from the episode "Hog Wild". Does anyone else? Please don't tell me I've lost my marbles already!

Both songs have always appeared in Hog Wild, except in the DVD set. UNLESS a syndicated cut edited the specific scenes to allow for more commercial time.

Can I assume "Taxman" from "There's Just No Accounting" was the Beatles version when it originally aired?
