You know what I'd LOVE to see? An approx. total on the number of complaints (email, snail mail, whatever) that were received overall by Cannell Productions, Anchor Bay, and whoever else fans wrote to because they were upset the cover songs were removed. Stunning that NO ONE has received ANY sort of response from ANYONE.

They have a response. It's:
"LALALALALALALALA I can't hear you LALALALALALA"

Yeah, it's "cha-ching! We're still making money off this. Who cares what you consumers think- you bought it anyway, buwahahah!" Thank goodness some of us fans have gotten the complete versions but too bad the vast majority of people won't even know how much they are missing.

Well, I was listening to the commentaries on the Simpsons Season Six DVD and they do talk about music rights a bit. Now the Simpsons could afford the prices since I assume they kmow they will sell more then GAH sets. But they talked about how even 5 or 10 secs of a song could cost up to $75,000 or more, depending on the source. And a whole song would be even more. But they even said in one or two cases they changed the song a bit if they felt it wasn't worth it.
Now of course GAH used cover songs but I'm sure they would still need the rights from the original owners. And it seems the high cost is to make more money since the original liscence only included broadcast rights only.
