After getting all three seasons at once from my mom, on my birthday, I recently finished every ep in the series. I went from wondering "I wish GAH would come back to TV", to having it on hand whenever I want to see it. Then I came up with an interesting scenerio (pun intended)...
What if, after most of its loyal following has bought up the DVDs, a major cable network (TVL, Hallmark, etc) acquired the rights, and aired GAH on a daily basis? Sure, it would never happen, but in the unlikely event it did, would you bother watching?
I only ask, because I recalled a similar situation with the sitcom "What's Happening". After every season of the show was put on DVD, TV Land bought the rights, and will debut it next weekend. If the same were to happen to GAH. I may watch, if only to see what the networks cut out, and be thankful I have the eps relatively whole.
And besides, it's cool to be flipping the channels one day, and run into a good ep of your favorite show.

I would be very excited, and I would watch it. I have several movies I own on DVD, but sometimes when they are aired on TNT, I still watch them. I dunno why, I just do. For the same reasons or extra reasons, it would be very special having GAH rerun on TV.

I would probably tape them all so I had the original songs and things, but compare the cut scenes to the DVDs. Plus, I would have back-ups in case a DVD or VHS went bad and needed replacing.

I'm not all that big on the original songs, 'cept for Eve of Destruction (of course). I'm thinking about deleting all but O:SS off my computer to clear up more space, now that I have the DVDs. My other favorite song, from "Divorce...", is intact so I'm content.
I haven't even watched O:SS on the DVDs, so I don't know of any missing scenes in my computer version, so I ain't missing a thing, at least not enough to make it worth missing EoD to see a minute or two of scenes.
Did that makes sense? I just spent 3 hours getting home from BFE king county, I'm exhausted.

I liked ROCKETMAN in the pilot...it worked better than the DVD song.

Yeah, that one's good too, I have that on the pilot. I've got all the downloaded copies backed up on disc, of course, so I can always put them back ON my computer to get screencaps.
As for the screencapping off my sister's laptop, well... She had me bring my DVDs, both GAH and I Spy, over to her boyfriend's so I could get some caps, but there were so many episodes of both that I couldn't remember what I wanted! I've still only watched about a third of the I Spy discs (63 eps I've got to work through!) and then of course most of the GAH eps are brand-new (again) to me. I finally gave up after about six captures, and told her I'd try it again and this time have a list of which eps I want to get caps off.
Sadly, one ep of I Spy I wanted caps off of, the disc isn't working in her machine. Yeah, I screamed. These shots of Kelly rival the lovely steam room scene from Magic Mirror, wh00t!! But I digress, as usual.

Eve Of Destruction, Space Oddity, Rocket Man, Taxman, Help Me Rhonda, My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys, Shut Down, A Beautiful Morning, You Don't Mess Around With Jim, Bad Moon Rising, The Sound Of Silence, Pinball Wizard... (I'm gonna cry) It does make me wonder though, if a TV station did pick up the rights to start airing the show again, would it air with the original 'cover' songs or the lame, replacement tracks used on the USA DVDs... I ponder the question.

All great songs...hopefully they would be the original songs so we could have copies of both.

It really does make me wonder though... once these new DVD 'contracts' are signed that set into motion all this 'music-changing' B.S., does that then make null and void all the other contracts for versions that contained the original material??? As in: can they even legally SHOW them on TV again in their 'first seen' form? So confusing. Are there any other shows out there this has happened to that ended up airing again after DVDs of the show were released? I can't think of any.

I imagine they can show them the way they originally aired because a television studio would buy the syndication rights, which would allow them the originals at no extra cost for original music I would imagine.

Someone adroitly pointed out, and I think it was HD, another show which might have changed music: WKRP in Cincinnati. Good point. I don't even think it's available on DVD, actually. It'd suck to have the original music gone, but I could live with it, as I rarely knew what Johnny Fever or Venus Flytrap were playing any way. And one of the bands they had, Scum of the Earth, I think was made up.
I realized another of the GAH songs I don't mind: the one in "Lost Diablo," about "Pieces of Gold." On the most part, I don't miss 'em.

Well, you should. PIECES OF GOLD is a great song for that episode...it always has been one of my favorites.

I think a station airing GAH would air the syndicated (music-intact) versions of the original broadcasts. I think the DVD releases are a seperate entity, and that licensing pertains only to the retail DVD release. I would like to see the show air on TV again so people could hear what the've been missing on the crappy DVDs.

Me too. And I'm willing to bet, if properly promoted, the ratings would be huge. Missed opportunity...

I agree...too much crime and drama stuff on TV.

Yeah, I've been pretty much watching DVDs since I got my dollars. The current stuff, on the most part, sucks. Reality shows, outside of "Cops," make me wanna hurl chunks.

Do you think I can sit through a commercial? Are you kidding? I'd gnaw my fingernails down to the cuticle. God forbid "To Be Continued" flashed across the screen at the end of an hour. I'd die. That used to KILL me as a kid. They used to do that all the time with The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman, and Wonder Woman.

I agree, but at least you would not have that with GAH...since none of the three seasons had a continuation...well, in syndication, they split up the pilot, but otherwise, there would not be one to worry about.
