Read below, and follow the link and VOTE! -------------------------------------------------------------- It’s time for the fourth annual TV DVD Awards, and we want your input. Here’s your chance to vote on the best TV DVD releases of the past year! A panel of judges took a look at nearly 160 entries submitted by the studios and independent suppliers, released between Sept. 1, 2006, and Sept. 30, 2007, and narrowed the choices down to four nominees in each of the 16 categories. Now we’re asking you to help select the overall winner in each category! Simply click on one of the four nominees in each category and when you’re done press “submit.” A VERY IMPORTANT reminder: please base your decision not just on the actual show, but also on the DVD TREATMENT — special features, menus, ease of navigation, packaging, sound and picture, etc. Voting ends Oct. 26. Winners will be announced Monday, Nov. 12, during a gala dinner and cocktail reception at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Century City, CA. reg.itworld.com/servlet/Frs.frs?Context=LOGENTRY&Source=TVSHOWSonDVD&Source_BC=40&Script=/LP/80196486/reg&&ord=3526911

I don't know if I could vote for that. I didn't get it.

HA! Can I vote a BEST for the Japanese release and a WORST for the USA release?

I think this would devolve into a popularity contest for the TV shows themselves, anyway. Who has actually purchased or rented EVERY SINGLE DVD collection on ths list? In the categories that did not interest me, I had to vote for my favorite show, even if the DVD was crap (like, perhaps they replaced all the music, or most seasons had no special features, etc.) Actually, that was true for the one category that DID interest me. Oh, well.
I even voted for Doctor Who! And I've never seen one episode! (At least I'd heard of it, unlike the other choices...)

You're right. That list sucked. Plus, some of them were in the wrong categories and such. I found it easier not to vote.

Did we ever find out how the final 'vote' turned out?

Hey, a Special Judge's Citation is pretty cool! Way to go Anchor Bay!
Too bad there wasn't a category for: Musical Disaster Citation: For DVDs which tragically changed songs from those played in the original episodes.

Replicas? As in plural? I take it no judge watched the show to realize the cape was not the same as in the show.

Ah, HD, don't be such a capey pooper. It is pretty cool anyway, even though it's not exactly the same as Ralph's. Also, the instruction book is fun. I mean, kudos for them creating those pseudo-items for fans. The question is, how much did it cost to do that for thousands of DVD containers; less than paying the money for "Eve of Destruction"?

Good call. Not to mention the fancy tin they put it in?

If only they had bothered to even LOOK INTO what it would have cost to license the music (which... they didn't). BOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

I wonder, as important as "Eve of Destruction" was to the episode (even being mentioned in the freakin' script!! ), why didn't they at least pay for that ONE song??? Or was it a package deal from one license catalog...all or nothing?

I'm just thankful that Universal didn't release GAH on DVD. That studio does by far the worst presentation of releasing their television series on the DVD format. Check out some of the reviews on Amazon for Universal TV on DVD products such as 'Quantum Leap' 'Magnum, P.I.' 'Buck Rogers' just to name a few. As far as I know, they are the only studio still releasing their TV series' on dual sided discs, which are more prone to develop wear and tear, as well as freezing and skipping issues that frequently occur with that type of cheap media. After reading some of the horror stories from fans who've been waiting for their favorite series to arrive on DVD and have it given such apathetic, shoddy treatment by Universal makes me feel very thankful for Anchor Bay. IMHO, they did a great job of remastering those episodes.

Culpkatt, who put out the ADDAMS FAMILY? They are double-sided.

To answer your question, it's MGM/UA studio. At least, that's according to Amazon's listing. Another thing about those Universal TV releases, they compress so much media onto one disc that the picture quality and sound suffer significantly. I've seen the Buck Rogers and Magnum, P.I. discs and it looks like they (Universal) just took out the original prints and just transferred them onto disc.

The ADDAMS FAMILY is well done I thought. Maybe I got lucky.

It also helps if you have a newer, reputable DVD player.
