I chose My Heoroes Have Always Been Cowboys.
Ralph reacts the same way I would have if I had met the Lone Ranger. No it is not Moore, but Harts LR contribution was still cool.

I hesitate to vote right now, because it's an extremely close call between SoSB and MHHABC. It's definately one of those two.

Gotta go with "My Heros...", although the strength of that vote has lessened somewhat since the... um... 'new version' has been released on DVD. (sigh)

Well I gotta vote for the pilot. I mean I LOVE Heroes/Cowboys and Fire Man. Pretty much all the Seaosn 1 episodes are great. But the pilot had the best looking suit, it nailed just the right tone for Maxwell and Ralph (ever notice how Maxwell seems to be come just a little more over-the top as we get into Season 2 and he becomes a borderline buffoon in some episodes in Season 3?) and it had the bets looking flying sequences. Nothing beats the reactions in the psyh ward and taking his first flight lessons form the little kid.
I think the NEW VERSION referred to on Heroes is the fact that due to the infamous music alterations, the actual Heroes cover is now missing fomr the episode which impacts this show moreso than others, robing not only some of the meaning from the ending but also from the title itself.
All I can say is, my VHS tapes are here to stay....
Hey for whoever posted about the DVDs of the original episodes- are they really uncut for all 44 eps? and all from Cannell masters? I might replace a few of mine if that's the case....

I voted for The Hit Car. After that the Pilot. The Hit Car just has SO MUCH going on that it's unbelievable. Ralph's class, Ralph and Pam, Ralph and Bill, Ralph and Bill and Scarlet, Ralph and Bill and Pam AND Scarlet, Johnny 'the disco prince', the hit car....man it's just wild what this episode had. I don't think GAH ever duplicated an episode like this. And Maxwell was NEVER so macho and tough again. I know what you mean about Maxwell. He did become borderline buffoonish as the series progressed. He was never again like The Hit Car styled Bill Maxwell. Though to be fair, the oafish Maxwell kinda started out in the 1st season episode The Best Desk Scenario, where he whines about moving to the bottom of the FBI and says about himself "people in the stands are cheering 'go geezer go!' ". I think Stephen J. Cannell and the other writers (as well as Culp himself) realized that they could have some comedic fun with the Maxwell character after The Best Desk Scenario. Slowly, they kept poking more fun at Maxwell and he became the butt or punchline of many jokes. They never really crossed the line to doing something outright objectionable with Maxwell, but they did come close and they DID CHANGE the character somewhat from the way he was in the very early episodes. In the beginning he was this very believable John Wayne styled macho tough guy. He was an over the top hardcore guy, but he still came across as a genuine man's man. Slowly he sorta turned into this bordeline oafish tough guy, starting with the last 1st season episode The Best Desk Scenario IMO. -scenario-

Although I voted for "My Heros..." (changed music aside), I completely agree about how great I also feel The Hit Car is. To me, the plot is decent, but the interaction between the three leads is what really makes it. That and that GREAT scene where Bill dumps the plate of pasta in Johnny's lap, then drinks some of his wine and the pours THAT in his lap too. One of my favorite G.A.H. scenes of all time. Classic Maxwell. I love Bill's wide eyed "Whaddya gonna do about it?" stare.

yeah that is a funny line. the pilot is, what i feel, one of the best of any series. most shows the characters are awkward in the begining. these guys seem to be playing themselves.

I voted for the pilot because, well, I just love it, but all of them are terrific.
Anyone else notice in Saturday on Sunset Blvd, when they are all gathered in the motel room waiting for the call from the kidnappers, as the Italian woman walks by Tony, he very quickly sneaks a look at her behind before he stops himself? I think it was actually Paré doing that, and not the character! LOL! It's really quick, just before Rhonda goes to sit in Tony's lap.

Yeah, that's why it just seemed so real; a ridiculous circumstance that actually felt real!

I voted Heroes. . .because you can see Ralph's underwear in that episode ;D WHAT? I'm a girl. . .some girls like that quality in a guy ;D Okay, okay, I really liked that episode because of the positive message, that you do what's right no matter how it makes you look, you stand up for what you believe in. And I think we can all relate to the phrase: [glow=red,2,300]"I grew up on this guy!"[/glow]

Hi, I'm new here, so I'm just learning my way around the board.
I voted for the pilot episode because it brought me back into the show.
I was three when it first aired, so most of my early memories are of Ralph flying into the billboard and a couple of the holographs, particularly the pilot's, as the holograph design was unique to that episode. Watching the pilot again on DVD, I remembered those scenes, which helped me remember more of the show. I also like the music in the pilot, especially the selection when Ralph leaves the hospital.
Now, I enjoy the show because of the characters and how they react to each other. Unlike a lot of shows now, when I watch this show, I feel as though I'm a part of the show and not a spectator. I can relate to Ralph, Pam and Bill during some part of the day. They come across as real people complete with successes, failures, victories and defeats.

Unfortunately you didn't get to hear "Rocket Man" which was playing when Ralph and Pam were talking in her car. The music playing on the DVD was not in the original pilot. Sorry you had to miss out on that.
