Hello- Just got the DVD set- been waiting a long time for this. I remember exactly where I was when the first episode premiered. I was on Spring Break with my family in Myrtle Beach, SC. I was so looking forward to it I convinced my family to exit the hotel pool and go upstairs and watch the episode (this was way before most people had VCRs and knew how to tape a show) Dad said if it was too corny we would go back downstairs to the pool. (I was 8 at the time) Anyhow we got to watch the whole episode! In 4th grade I made a silent 8mm movie called the Greatest American Zero! Of course the symbol on the suite was a Zero instead of the rocket shaped one. (Note- this was never released commercially or ever made any money- this was a home movie I made) It was about 15 minutes long. I noticed by watching the DVD in a few episodes mention is made of Lon Chaney, Claude Rains as the Invisible Man. This is my favorite stuff- the classic Universal Monster movies. Does anyone remember Bill Maxwell mentioning sci-fi guru Forrest J Ackerman in an episode? I kinda remember this but I was just a kid. Looking forward to the rest of the series. Dustin

We should start a fan film video store.

I always wondered how many others made fan films. Mine was pretty primative. I was only in the 4th grade when I made it. It was silent 8mm made with a camera you actually had to wind up. The titles were done more in the style of the Superman Movie titles. The plot was Mr. Hinkley, Pam, and Bill were after a mad scientist with a deadly robot. I really like old sci-fi movies too. Bill comes to my house to let me know what is going on. He drives to the scene of the crime. I fly of course. This takes up the bulk of the movie. I also run really fast too. I crash land several times along the way. You'd think I was going across the country but literally I was just going next door (we filmed a brick wall next to my parent's house) I entered the house through the brick wall but the mad scientist and the robot have already escaped. I get them outside by clever use of my invisibility tricks. Along the way somehow I run into several people I know that ask what I am doing ( this was to get some friends in school in the movie) At the end I disappear again. Another quick thought- When they kept messing with its time slot and the seasonal time change, I could not stay up to watch the show anymore since it was past my bed time. I remember I could watch half an episode. The one I remember the most is when William Katt goes into another dimension after somekind of weird monster. Later, Dustin

HAHA.....Beta ROCKS!!!!!. ;D Yep, better than VHS. I have a ton of old super films too. One of my favorites, playing a Indiana Jones type, who in one scene pounces on the bad guys from high above.....and promptly rips out the rear of his pants.....lol. Needless to say that shot had to have another take. ;D

Duh...I forgot my GAH memory.
My first memory was waking up early on a Saturday morning, television already on, and looking up at the screen to see a VERY short promo. They used the shot of Katt carrying the single light (flying towards the camera, right to left at an angle) from the pilot. Only thing was, instead of matted over the shot of Corry's estate, he was matted over a shot of the Earth. I think the voiceover might have said, "Coming in March." or maybe..."Coming in 2 weeks."
About 2 seconds after the promo my phone started ringing, and it was a couple of friends screaming into the phone asking me "Didja see the guy flying with the light!"

This show made my Wednesday nights as a kid. I would be excited in school all day, waiting for it. I just got the DVD...the dialogue is brilliant. I liked the Culp interview - clearly he loved Bill and loved the role. Some shows don't stand the test of time, but watching this one again, I can see why I loved it so much when I was 11 & 12. Oh, I didn't mean to imply that I don't STILL love it, because I do. I still feel like a 12-year old who wants to watch it and go play Pac-Man.

I miss my VIC20! Remember saving your data on a cassette deck. I even had that little Timex computer.

Has it really been twenty-four years since Greatest American Hero aired on ABC? God, I feel old. I was only nine when G.A.H. orignally ran in 1981 and I thought it was one of the coolest programs at the time. Now, at the ripe age of thirty-three, I still think it's one of the coolest programs ever conceived. On the Season 1 dvd, William Katt mentioned in his interview that the show started going downhill when the writers wanted his character of Ralph "to chase monsters in the sewers". I must disagree with that. I thought The Beast in Black, The Shock Will Kill You & The Devil and The Deep Blue Sea were good episodes. Anyway, I'm sorry that the show ended only after three seasons. Stephen J. mentioned in his interview on the Season 1 dvd that there was talk of a G.A.H. movie. I think that would be great. Let's face it, if the General Lee can make it to the big screen why can't the red jammies. I would dish out the cash to see it at the theater. Or resurrect it on the small screen. I mean, Battlestar Galactica made a comeback with a fresh look why couldn't G.A.H. Okay, I'm beginning to ramble now . . . so I think I'm going to end this message right now.
