I haven't picked up the DVDs yet, but I remember the episode where Ralph encounters the Mob boss who had a suit in his younger days. His comments were that Ralph's suit was similar to his, implying that it wasn't quite the same. At the time, I couldn't help wondering if perhaps the old suit was blue with a red cape and a different symbol, perhaps providing the "inspiration" for the "fictional" Superman in the earlier part of the century...
Not Cannon, just a random thought for the day.

Yeah that episode is from Season 2. ;D
I thought that was a very intesting story line about a previous suite.

Don't Mess Around With Jim. And I agree, one of the best. Airing after Operation Spoilsport, it is, IMHO, the best 1-2 punch that ABC ever aired in back-to-back weeks for G.A.H.

The aliens took it away because he abused his power. One of his lines was to the effect that Ralph was lucky he lost the instructions, as it put a check on his power, and reduced the temptationss.

I always thought it strange that the Greenguys let J.J. Beck keep the suit for so long before they FINALLY decided to take it away from him. From what we can gather, he was using the suit for his personal financial gain for years before the aliens took action.
I do imaine that even Ralph would be tempted by the suit if he knew it's truly vast, seemingly unlimited power...and if he knew how to correctly use the power if he had the instruction book.

Ralph being tempted to abuse power is also covered in another episode. (Again, I don't recall the ep name). The suit was "supercharged" with Plutonium radiation and Ralph gained the ability to read and "mess with" people's minds. He had Connie Seleca's character waiting on him hand and foot without her even realizing it.

I haven't seen these episodes you mention, well..not in 23 years, so I don't remember. However, did the mob boss at least give him a few pointers? Geesh, at least how to fly and land, and how to carry people without dumping them on their heads?

No "pointers" that I remember, but the previous guy's "partner" did tell Ralph how to use telekinesis. (And was rather frustrated that he had to, as he didn't know at the time that Ralph lost the book.)

Honestly, I'm not sure that is a temptation I would be able to resist, either.

I hate it when people ask me if I am talking about GI Joe. Do you all get that? I called a comic store here in the Seattle area, and asked if they had ANYTHING to do with Greatest American Hero, and the kid asked, Is that a GI Joe thingie or something? I kind of get the same thing asking about "I Spy." I have to clarify I mean the TV show, not that horrid movie. As for temptations in "Don't mess around with Jim," I'd never seen it before, so when I was watching it for the first time, and BILL suggested using the power to win lots of dollars, I was aghast! I was like, Bill, NO! I'm so glad they didn't do it (obviously), cuz I knew they'd start that long terrible spiral into using the suit for greedy purposes, and I couldn't see either one doing that.

It was similar with the idea in THE LOST DIABLO where he wanted the suit to become rich, you know.
