Okay...I'm still a little confused here... and I've gone thru the threads and tried to piece it together, but I'm still not understanding... What is the situation with the music of GAH? Can someone lay it all out and explain it in detail? What was the original music, what was changed, and what is there now? Who sang the songs before and who sings them now? For some reason they all sound the same now. Golly, my heads spinning from all this...whew!

There were two types of songs used in GAH. THe first are songs that were written FOR GAH like the theme song, "Believe it or not." Those were all sung by Joey Scarborogh (sp) and remain UNCHANGED. There were, however, popular 80s songs by bands like Elton John which were resung by Joey Scrarborough. Those songs have ALL been removed since the copywrite never officially belonged to GAH. They have been replaced with various stuff sung by who knows who and written by who knows what.
I have been trying to compile a complete list of changes, but have only listed the pilot so far. Look for my thread "Complete List of Changes."

I remember going out and buying singles of the songs I heard in the show. I have Rocket Man, Space Oddity, Eve of Destruction, etc.

The songs as they originally appeared sounded more the same then now -- Joey Scarbury sang ALL the songs featured, save when Faye Grant's character belted out "Brass in Pocket" and other tunes (was that Faye Grant's voice?) -- and any songs that were NOT covers of famous tunes have stayed in the shows. Any that were covers of famous tunes have been replaced by generic wimp-rock, usually, with one or two exceptions (a country-tune that actually fits in "My Heroes"....) -- who sings them? I don't know, somebody who worked cheap enough, apparently.

Wow. This is mind-boggling isn't it? That's what I wanted to be of of though... Joey Scarbury actually sang all of the songs on the show? That's pretty cool. No wonder why his voice has stuck in my head all these years. Since they took out the popular songs sung by Scarbury, then why couldn't they just put in the original songs instead?

That is a question -- although songs like "Dreams" and such were made for specific episodes, you'd think a few of them could fit in where they made alterations that perhaps WEREN'T essential -- using "Dreams" instead of "Help Me Rhonda" when you see a shot of a bus driving -- don't get me wrong, it wouldn't be as good as "Rhonda" but it would certainly fit better than Brett Michaels Jr. meets John Mayer or whoever they have warbling now...

So, does Joey Scarbury sing any of the songs in the shows? (besides the Title song) Because I thought I was hearing him in some shows, but I'm not sure. I am still baffled by this whole music thing.

Yes, yes, yes. Joey Scarbury sung all the songs that remained. Only "licensed" songs (which were also sung by Scarbury) have been removed. For example, songs by the Beatles like "Taxman" were removed even though they were sung by Scarbury since the Beatles still claim copyright. On the other hands, ALL the songs written by Geyer (and sung by Scarbury), like "Dreams," remain intact.
For a complete list of removed songs see my "complete alteration" thread which has been updated.

I really like most of the original Geyer/Scarbury pieces. I wonder how many folks can name the episode just by the song?
