That was a great little article. Thought it was neat that he has a possible game in the works. Never have been able to use most of the modern-day game systems, save the N64 and original Nintendo. Most of the time... I end up playing Mario Party (the only one I can play right), Mario Tennis or the Intellivision classics one. Mario Party I end up playing Donkey Kong and just play silly if I don't know how to play the game (I've won a couple of times with that strategy too). Mario Tennis, I'm acutally pretty good at, and Intellivision... sorry, I still get nostalgic when I watch "Wizards and Warlocks" when Ralph plays the 'game'. It's "Dungeons and Dragons 'played' on a Galaxga (I think) arcade (well.... it's got a spacy theme for a midieval style game). But, I grew up playing on the Intellivision system.

I just found this! As of yesterday.
Disney Preps Greatest American Hero
Disney has hired Paul Hernandez to pen the script for a big-screen version of the 1980s superhero television series The Greatest American Hero, according to Daily Variety. The trade paper reported that Hernandez, in his second year at Disney's in-house writing program, convinced Hero producer Stephen J. Cannell to update the property by locating and bringing to the pitch session the original alien suit sported by William Katt. Like the series, the film will focus on a nerdy teacher who struggles with the superhero powers he gains after he dons a costume given to him by aliens. Daily Variety added that, as of yet, no actors or director are attached to the project.

Disney's Touchstone Pictures will collaborate on the project with series creator Steven J. Cannell and Film Roman. Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein (Never Been Kissed) will write the script.

As much as I hate saying it, I would take this with just a grain of salt. I've seen this happen before with several movies and such. "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" I believe had several shuffles with directors, et al., before it actually was finalized and filmed. I'd also be careful if I were him that if does a teacher and it's not Ralph, that they're different in personality, story, history, etc.

Really. I did pick this off a blog somewhere and I agree. Greatest American Hero is far too good for a movie... by anchorite May 9th, 2006 10:52:54 AM CST made by Hollywood execs with $$ for eyes instead of a sense of nostalgia or respect for the original material. I would hate to see William Katt replaced by James Marsten, and Robert Culp...Robert Culp, damn you! Who could replace HIM? No one. That's who. Connie Seleca, on the other hand, could be played by pretty much anyone and I wouldn't miss her. Just please no Pam Dawber. Oh, that's it!

Pam made the show realistic AND kept the boys from fighting too much...SHE was an integral part of the show...and is probably the MAIN reason it was so successful. The guys didn't turn in for anyone else!

I do agree though with him that they'd probably choose a poor cast: Maybe Owen Wilson for Ralph, Zooey Deschanel (I liked her as Trillian in "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy") as Pam, and Richard Gere as Bill (or maybe Robert Conrad (who I loved at Jim West in the series "The Wild Wild West") Just because he does act a tad too rough and gruff at times).

Okay. we all know that whomever they pick will more than likely screw up the memories for us.And not to mention if they write it properly or not. I still say that Hollywood WILL screw it up big time, and it'll probably end up like the dukes of hazzard remake or something like it(I saw it the other night, and could only stomach a few minutes of it before changing channels) I hope that SJC will have some form of senses and make it right. If not, there's always the project me and MelMac are working on. (shameless plug....but oh well).

Hey, we know Katt's sons have visited the site, maybe SJC does too. (Shrug ) There have been a few good remakes, such as "Maverick," which I really liked and fit the theme of the show. "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" was also good and accurate ironically because all versions of the series contradict each other: Radio, Book, TV and Movie (though I missed the "Ford, you're turning into a penguin. Stop it.") Only thing I didn't like was Mos Def's interpretation of Ford (I liked David Dixon's version better on TV (Geoffrey McGivern was excellent as the audio, and first, Ford). "The Avengers" was also very good in their movie version, and close to accurate to the series. Problem there was they made Steel and Peel a little too cool (Ralph Fiennes, however, was a very good Steed.) If they watched those movies and the TV series (series first), they could work out a great movie that I believe would do well.

If the rumors are true that the original suit was brought to Hernadez, and hopefully he has watched the show, then maybe..just maybe he will do good and produce a really good script. HOWEVER, good script or not, we'll see how they cast it. If they fit and are believable, then yay for us and the memory of the show. If they..oh..let's say...SUCK, then well it'll seem that Hollywood idiocy has struck again. But we shall see what the new writer will do with it.(my fingers are crossed on this one). Also, once again, if it turns to you know what, then there's always me and MelMac's script in the works.(yes, I know, another shameless plug). And if Katt and co do read these things.... ask to contact me!!! I got much to ask you.
Later

Paul Hernandez has definitely seen the show, since he used to be on our old board all the time as "MortimerWest" I would trust him to do the show justice script-wise, but I doubt he would have any say as to who would be cast.
Alas, I'm sure the news above is old news, as Paul eventually dropped out of the TGAH script and instead made Sky High, and even went into a *little* detail why here. I'll leave it to others to search for that tidbit...

(ETA: Well, apparently you found it... I thought that chocolate diet Coke was actually helping. But, at least I've got that temp agency stuff filled out now and a hotel's interested in hiring me. )
