I've still not seen the dvds, but i remember fondly of the strange film used in shooting the lost diablo.. the colours almost melt, it gave the whole episode a real desert-ambience feeling, daytime and night time... anybody noticed this? and pieces of gold is great song

For a reason unknown to me, The Lost Diablo was shot on videotape instead of film. Notice this episode even comes complete with a different style of font for the guest cast & end credits. Also of note is that this episode was nominated for a Emmy Award for Outstanding Videotape Editing-Series. It lost to a episode of Barbara Mandrell & the Mandrell Sisters.

Well, an award's an award!
I was surprised in The Lost Diablo that Ralph didn't rescue the bad guys from the cave-in. I didn't think he should, but most shows back then tied things up all nicey-nicey in the end. That was a little gritty for 1982. It wasn't exactly "The Shield".

Not bad for a videotape quality for the '80s! I always thought they used a special film not too sensitive to light being the camera exposed to the intensity of the sun in the desert. The suit has a different intense color in that episode.
I am also thinking at that poor Arlan, blind but living alone in the desert. In TheGoodSamaritan we see him again, camped in another location.. it could be Bill to drive his camper and get food supplies for him.
