ANgels beat the Giants in '02 Thanks for the clarification. I was in a transistion time around then, so I didn't follow it as closely after the Astros were done for the season. Don't know about the Pirates as being a wacky final, they had a pretty good season this year and for a while were potential playoff contenders. I still miss their old hats though. Royals, however, I do agree with. They're in thee same bad streak of luck as the Detroit Tigers had at one time.

All I can say is that for a man from Missouri...a great World Series is a Missouri play-off...like they used to do in the 80's. Of course, any big city with two teams would have to love that potential.

Of course, any big city with two teams would have to love that potential. I remember a couple of times the past few years where I thought there might be a possible Texas series (Rangers-Astros), but that didn't happen, more on the Rangers' side. There are only a few states that could have both teams in the world series — California, Texas, New York, and Illinois come to mind. Canada could have if the Expos didn't become the Nationals. California I think has the best advantage/disadvantage as there are three there. In their case it would be the Angels and either the Giants or Padres. Advantage is that there are three teams, disadvantage, one National division team would have to be disappointed that year.

Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Yankees lose! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah 5 chokes in a row! $200 million payroll? Should have sent it to the poor folks in the gulf coast instead! Steinbrenner, you $uck! OK, I'm done! By the way, the Chicago White Sox are in the playoffs, but the guy who they play the GAH theme for (when he comes up to bat) is not on the 40-man roster. Damn! I thought it would be cool to hear the theme in prime time. chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/team/player.jsp?player_id=435042

They play the GAH theme for Brian Anderson? Why? Because of his curly blonde hair?

I remember someone posting this in an earlier thread, and apparently they played it because they thought he looked like Katt. I don't see much of a similarity personally, except for the hair.
The one downside is that nine times out of 10 you can't hear the introductory music when a player is announced on TV. The best way to hear it is in person at the game. For example, I think the only theme I've heard distinctly on TV was when then-Astro Derek Bell came up to bat for the Astros, but only because his started with a church bell ring. Still, it would have been cool to have the chance hear "Believe It or Not" on TV again.

Just saw that ex-Yankee Joe Girardi was offered the manager's job for the Marlins. I know Girardi wants Don Zimmer as his benchcoach and Stottlemyer the pitching coach supposedly resigned from the Yankees. Not sure if I want Girardi, personally I want Larry Bowa, but he shot himself in the foot last year. Marlins offered him 3rd base coach this season so that he would take over for McKeon next year but Bowa did not want a coaching job. It wasn't B owa's fault in Philly, it was GM Ed Wade who was finally canned this week.

Sad thing about the Marlins was that after they won their first World Series, they practically dismantled the team. This is why the Astros got Moises Alou back then. I remember the first time he played against the Marlins after the trade. It was in the Astrodome, and was very good. We beat the Marlins, and both my sister and I got baseballs at the game. My sister got hers from the Marlins. I found mine when we were heading to the seats. When we were walking down the stairs, there was a baseball next to the stairs, probably hit there when the Astros were warming up. Mom passed by it, my sister passed by it, and my brother passed by it. I was looking at the stairs (force of habit from my mascot days), and picked it up. They laughed when I showed it to them and said, "Not again," as I had gotten one earlier in the season. After my sister got hers, I gave mine to my brother so all three of us kids would have one. Man, those were the good old days (sad to say 1998-99). Tickets were $5 for the outfield tickets (the cheap seats), the best food deal was big bag of cotton candy for $2, and you had a really good chance at getting a real or soft baseball. Jose Lima used to throw a lot of the souvenir (soft) baseballs to fans before the game started. (Sorry I'm rambling a bit, but the Astros just won in St. Louis and are heading back home for the next three games. Last year, all 7 games were won on the home team's field, so this is a plus. I also miss going to the games. I only got to go to one this year, and it was for my birthday. But we won then too, and I got another soft baseball, thrown into the stands by the ball boys. I liked them, as they made sure the kids that were there got a baseball. One of the perks of getting there early with few people around. )

Amen! Now, if we can hold on to Wagner maybe we'll have a chance next year!
As far as Brian Anderson goes, I was watching a White Sox game on TV earlier this year. The Yankee announcers did say they played the GAH theme when Anderson came to bat. I guess because of the curly hair. BTW that was my earlier post.

BTW that was my earlier post. Thanks, MrsMaxwell, I wasn't too sure who it was that posted the previous message. I've had "baseball fever" for the past couple of weeks (I guess that's pretty obvious considering my previous post ), so I've had trouble remembering names. The Phillies were a good team this year, and as I said before, if the Astros didn't advance, I'd like to have seen them advance. I just didn't want the Cubs to advance. Funny thing I though was that the Expos did better this year as the Nationals. They gave everyone a run for their money, both in their division and for a long time in NL Wild Card.

Well, the White Sox are one game away from making the World Series. It'll be interesting to see if they can hold off the Angels. The Astros are up 2-1, so all together it will lead to an interesting few games down to the series. It may very well be a Astros-White Sox series. That'd be cool, a team that's never advanced (Astros, 44 years) and one who hasn't in decades (White Sox, I think since 1917, so 88 years).

All right, another Astros fan. I thought I was the only one here. I'm a Texan myself (guess that's bit obvious ), and have been rooting for them to win this evening so they don't have to go to St. Louis again. It'd be much sweeter for them to win on their home turf. I only got to go to one game this year, for my birthday when I was on vacation. It was a great game as well, we beat the Reds and a got a souvenier baseball. So, I guess all I can say Go 'Stros!

Oh come on...go Cards. At least until a very exciting and NON-ERROR filled game seven happens. Got to love nailbiters.

Oh come on...go Cards. At least until a very exciting and NON-ERROR filled game seven happens. Got to love nailbiters. I don't want it to go to seven, but that depends on the Astros. But, errors have come into play (player and ump) for all four teams that made it to second round (I think the Sox will keep that title this year.) (Oh, brother Now I've got that old song in my head from my fifth-grade play "Play Ball!" again. Which the first stanza goes "In spring we always say we turn to thoughts of love, but now-a-days we're only thinking of our baseball glove. It's the time of season, without any reason, we all want to go play ball." I was an second base umpire in that. Top it off, my brother was in "Damn Yankees," so maybe I really do have baseball fever. But on the other hand, goes to show that the elementary school did well in teaching us songs. I still remember the state song and national anthem. ) BTW, scenario, like the quote under your avatar. Boy, we could have used that yesterday that last inning.

I hope it's a Sox / Astros series myself. I can't stand Jim Edmonds (He likes to flip his bat after hitting a home run and stares down the opposing dugout). The Yankees aren't in it so it's been agreat baseball year! May the best team win.

I wonder if the Astros could make it if Lidge was hit by a pitch and benched. He tends to be THE reason they win it seems.

Marlins signed Joe Girardi as their new manager...expected to ask Don Zimmer as bench coach, Andres Gallaraga as hitting coach, and Don Baylor as 3rdbase coach
