Go Sox. Rabble-rouser ( ) Seriously, both teams are deserving, I want the Astros to win. And it's not the Cards or Yankees playing (or any other traditional lineup). I especially got a kick out of hearing the broadcasters being stunned that their team lost. (I know they claim to be unbiased, but there were times I just wanted them to scream "Go Braves" or "Go Cardinals" and be done with it)

;D OHMYFREAKN'GOD!!!! FINALLY!!!ASTROS WIN THE PENNANT!!!!ASTROS WIN THE PENNANT!!!!Texas finally has a World Series!!!! I can't believe this, I never wanted to abandon my boys, and that loss in Game 5 to that Albert Pujols homer was the worst loss I've ever had for any team in ANY sport. For the 'Stros to come back and survive that loss, going to Bush Stadium in St. Louis and defeating the Cardinals....that's just...what legends are made of. I'm so happy, at the moment I don't even want to think about who will win the World Series. I'm just glad we are THERE. Finally. Roy Oswalt must have the suit on underneath. -scenario-

ITA with you scenario, that Game 5 was a heartbreaker, and could easily have cost the Astros the pennant. I was hoping it wouldn't be similar to the Red Sox-Yankees series last year, but it wasn't ;D . Last year, after that one game the Yankees lost, it was like they rolled over and died. The last game was 16-2, no where close to trying it seemed. And, despite quarrels with the umps (I wish I remember that ump rap from "Play Ball!" It would fit perfectly for the series), both teams were classy throughout. (Well, maybe except for the Cardinal who said on record it was interesting to hear 43,000 people shut up after Game 5. ). The Astros definitely deserved to win the pennant this year. Now, they've got to play the Sox for the series. (Come to think of it, did the 'Stros play them in interleague this year? I plumb forgot they do interleague games, save the Rangers-'Stros games, and am not too sure how that works.)

Amen! Tim McCarver and Joe Buck make me sick! They are both so biased toward the Cardinals and Yankees, it's not funny. Buck's dad was the St. Louis announcer for years, and McCarver played there. Add to the fact that the they priase whatever team is in the lead, and when the other team comes back they act like "Oh, I told you they would bounce back".
Oh, and that "scooter" cartoon sucks too!

Ah, so that's why. Granted Milo Hamilton, who is the broadcaster for the Astros, leans toward his own team, but he still shows enthusiam for both teams and gives credit where credit's due, such as a great home run or play. Although I'm excited the Astros are going to the series, the Cards played a great season. They won 100 games, which no other team had this year. They also had their magic number about two weeks before everyone else. And, who will forget Pujols' (finally have his name spelled right) home run. I think the jokes about Houston Control still tracking it are funny. (The Astros even kidded about it, which I think helped them win Game 6 as they didn't let it get them down.) Anyway, now it's Astros all the way. So Go 'Stros Go! ;D (BTW, didn't see the "Scooter" cartoon. What's that all about (or do I not want to know)?)

"Scooter" is a stupid, stupid cartoon of a talking baseball. Only a 2 year-old would find him amusing. Basically, Fox uses "scooter" to desribe the path of a slider, curve ball, change-up, etc. It's annoying as hell...

Are you going to root for the White Sox, Maxwell, or do you like the Cubs over the Sox? (just curious because of where you're from and the post reads odd) I like the White Sox as well, and if the Astros don't win, at least they won't lose to the Yankees. BTW, thanks MrsM for elaborating on Scooter. I do remember him now, and he is silly. He sounded like he was inhaling helium. I'm not a huge fan of Junction Jack (Orbit was better, but wouldn't work considering the stadiums built near a train station), but even he's cooler than a talking baseball.

Going with the WHite SOx... They gave the Marlins a place to play in '04 after hurricanes forced the team to leave Miami.... Also, Ozzie Guillen was the Marlins' third base coach when they won the Series in '03... gotta pull for him

damn!! Lidge gave up another home run. I can't believe this, his first game back from the home run he gave up to the Cardinals in Game 5 of the NLCS, and he chokes up a game winning homer to the Sox. He used to be the best closer in all the majors, and now he seems to be rattled. Sheez, maybey the Astros really do need Ralph Hinkley's suit powered pitching and hitting right now. -scenario-

Might not matter. I believe it was a different pitcher who gave the SOX a World Series grand slam pitch. Besides, the Astros still have five games in which they can pull it out.

Yeah, the Sox were very lucky yesterday between the (given to them) grand slam and the game ending homer. They actually should have been tied when they had the ninth inning homer. The guy who got on base before they hit the slam was not hit by the pitch, replays show that. Biggio was hit by a pitch during the year and was called for leaning into it (given that the poor guy has the record for being hit by pitches, why did the ump even think that ) It's a given calling plays is hard, but this changed the outcome of the game, second for the Sox as well. I'm not saying the Astros didn't have their chances and left runners on base, but that poor call was the main reason they lost. I especially disliked the Sox's celebrating at the end. You'd think they won the Series. True, the Sox player came through for them, but I think that was a poor move on their part. There's at least (though I think will be more) 2 games left, and if you celebrate too early, you tend to get trounced. I saw it happen before to a team who we played in district and volleyball playoffs. They had beaten us in district, and, though we tied for first in district, since we split the games, we had a playoff for playoff position. They won that as well, and ultimately we both made it to the regional championship. They came in too cocky, as they had won the two prior games, and we ended up trouncing them to go to state. (OK, I'm ranting, but yesterday's game was very poor in officiating, and being a line caller in volleyball both during and after my high school volleyball carrer (the coach always found me when I came to watch them, and I called lines), I get mad when people make poor calls for any team.)

In case you didn't notice, the Astros vs. the Cardinals was not exactly problem-free from the umpires, which helped put the Astros on top.

In case you didn't notice, the Astros vs. the Cardinals was not exactly problem-free from the umpires, which helped put the Astros on top. True, but the decisions were not as huge or game changing as last night's game. The Astros should have won the game, or at least have a chance to go to extra innings. When the guy got "hit" by the pitch, it loaded up the bases. When the next batter hit the homer, it should have been 5-4 instead of 6-4. None of the calls by the umpires in the Astros-Cards series to me had any major change in the game as far as that many runs. The last game wasn't even close as far as those two teams are concerned. And, both teams got calls to their advantage to where they scored at least one run. Believe you me, I don't envy the umpire or referee's position, so I try to be fair when I have a complaint about them. I was booed several times for calling the correct call on lines in volleyball, such as one where a girl touched the ball when it headed out of bounds. It looked as though she didn't, but I heard and saw it, so I called it correctly. I did have my call questioned, but I told them it hit her arm because I heard it hit. Not to say though that I made some bad calls, and those were rightly overturned by the officials. Still, I guess that I did a good enough job that coach still wanted me to call lines after I graduated (I just wish she gave me back my $2 I paid to watch the game in the first place.)

That is why I don't referee...I just argue with them. And I never did that...I was the person holding back captains and coaches...Once I even had to pretend I was the coach in order to avoid a forfeit.

And I never did that...I was the person holding back captains and coaches...Once I even had to pretend I was the coach in order to avoid a forfeit. I understand that, but in a different and good way. I was constantly the "target" of our best hitter when I called lines for the varsity team my sophomore and junior years. Nine times out of 10, she would hit that corner and I'd have to dodge. Got hit in the face enough by walking in the spike zone to retrieve my volleyball, didn't need it at games. (But didn't get hit either)
