Hmmm, out of those listed last, I'd agree with Space: 1999, and the bionic folks.
My all-time favorite comedy though, and my second favorite show of all time (behind Star Trek), is WKRP in Cincinnati. Last I heard, it wasn't on DVD.

I think I'll add Time Traxx to my list too. I never saw that when it aired either. Its almost as if I stooped watching TV when I reached drinking age....except for Star Trek:TNG.

I know why WKRP is not on DVD
The music industry is now trying to make gobs of money at DVDs expense. Because of loss of revenue with illegal downloading of music, the music lables are now asking an arm and a leg in fees for DVD companies to use the songs in the show. Quantum Leap DVDs were butchered because of this. WKRP, a show that has a lot of music tracks, would be very expensive box sets for a half hour show. Unless the people who have the rights to the songs in WKRP relent their posture of high fees, it won't happen...

Now that TGAH is out, there are only 3 DVD box sets I am waiting for...
1) Marvel Superheroes ('60's) 5 DVD set (Iron Man, Cap'n AMerica, Hulk, THor, SUbmariner) this box set was scheduled to be out this summer but because of Fantastic 4, they opted to release a set of those cartoons instead. Now the Marvel set is in limbo
2) Star Trek Animated Series - I keep hearing Xmas or Spring '06
3) Bugs Bunny Ultimate COllection - I heard about this 2 years ago and am still waiting. Is it for real or a hoax? 10 DVD set of every single Bugs Bunny short - EVER!!!! Whether he starred or cameoed, everything in 1 set!!!!! Even if it is over $100, I will buy this

I think "Spencer: For Hire" is already out on DVD. You might want to check it out. Then again, I might be confused with "Remington Steele" (Don't ask me how I could though). There are also a few "Space: 1999" episodes out there on DVD. As far as what I'd like to see on DVD, I'd like to see "McHale's Navy" out on DVD as well. I'd also like to see us get the DVDs of the new "Doctor Who" series (though I doubt we will until it airs here) "Jack of All Trades," and maybe "Automan." As far as a cartoon, I'd like to see "M.A.S.K." come out. |

Sorry if I go "off topic" in an already "off topic" forum BUT... P2P (or illegal downloading of music which some insist on calling it) is NOT the reason for declining record sales. Researchers at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina conducted a study which tracked music downloads. Major factors were lower household spending, and increased competition from other entertainment forms such as DVDs and video games. They found that it would take about 5,000 downloads to displace sales of just one physical CD. One thing they failed to mention is that the music being released today is just crap! How many artists release an album (oh, sorry, CD) which spawns more than 1 top 40 hit. Even if its "alternative" or "not mainstream" how many of today's CD will withstand the test of time like music from the 50' thru the 80's? None outside of country. I don't think my downloading of obscure one-hit wonders from the 80's is going to result in Puff Daddy (or whatever the hell his name is this week) going on welfare! Have you read "Billboard" lately? I remember when there were 3 basic charts: Top 40, country, and R&B. Now there are so many damn sub-catagories its a joke! People are so starved for attention that the put these specialized labels on themselves to sell music. Its the same mentality that brings us "reality-TV' and makes stars out of the likes of Omarosa (beeotch). Just what the hell is the difference between Rap, Hip-hop, Club, Dance and (my personal favorite) "Rhythmic Top 40"? Oh, that was a rhetorical question, please don't answer. Maybe if they stocked their stores with REASONABLY PRICED catalog titles that people wanted, they would sell more CD's. Same goes for downloads. You can never find what you want at itunes either. I used to work for a music store that just went out of business...common thing mentioned in the store (and our prices were competitve BTW...)
Kid 1: You gonna buy that CD?
Kid 2: Naw, just go home and burn it off the internet.
Kid 1: Cool, make me a copy too
Yeah, newer stuff is crap, but it still drives people to go online and get it for free
There are sites where ppl can still download but pay les than a dollar a song - like buying a single, but ppl go for the free sites...
Bottom line: the music industry is trying to make some bucks off of DVD merchandising due to declining sales. AS a result, DVD season releases have replaced music, in some cases like Quantum Leap with crappy muzak...

Of COURSE, THAT GIRL on DVD would kick butt. Yes it would! There is one more, but I may be the only one old enough to appreciate this. I would LOVE to have the Beatles animated cartoon on DVD. I watched it the first time around, every Saturday morning, when I was a very small child. I heard it was on MTV at some point, but I never saw it there. Even finding it on VHS would be a real treasure, to me! |

Hollywood is too politically correct now. Unless if you are talking about those of us of German ancestry... Apparently it's still OK to call us "Krauts" and group us all together as "Nazis". That explains "Hogan's Heroes" out on DVD.

I'm fairly sure it's out, and if it's not, I'd be surprised, since it's one of the most popular TV shows of all time. I know what you mean about going PC, though. When Nick was showing WKRP in Cincinnati, I was watching one of my alltime favorite eps, the one with the tornado, and they totally cut the segment with the Japanese businessmen, who were getting a tour of the station by the Big Guy. They pointed out the window at the coming tornado, and Carlson doesn't know what they're pointing at. He says, "Probably spotted a fotomat or something." Now, this is a hysterical line, but I guess it was too discriminatory (in Nick's eyes, I guess) and it was cut out completely. And nowadays, there're so many Bugs Bunny cartoons that have been labeled officially as banned, including my alltime favorite, "Hillbilly Hare." I mean, come ON, I'm half hillbilly myself, and I think this cartoon's a scream! "Be you a Martin or be you a 'Coy?" "Some of my friends say I'm very coy!" "Well we's a-feudin' on accounta I'm a MARTIN!" LOL Bugs rules. I don't know who rules more: Bugs Bunny or William Maxwell. It's close. |

I see you point about "All in the Family". However, I think its well accepted in Hollywood as a knock on WASPy blue collar America. Everything Archie says makes him look like an ass. People didn't get that when it debuted. They make Col. Klink look like an ass too, because he's the enemy, like Archie. McHale on the other hand is the hero in the show, and hearing him say "Japs" has a different meaning than if feeble-minded Archie did. I still believe Germans are the lone remaining "acceptable to bash" nationality left in Hollywood.
I can't believe I just psycho-analyed Col. Klink, Archie Bunker, and Cmdr. McHale in the same post! I need to get away from my desk for a while.

But you bring up a good point, yeah.
And I believe McHale was a Lt. Commander, at least through the series, unless I missed a promotion. I recall that because McCoy and Scotty on Star Trek (pre-movies, at least) are also Lt. Commanders, something I noticed as a kidlet, that they and McHale are the same ranks.
Granted, it's been too many years since I saw McHale's Navy, so I may've missed some information.
Another goodie from that by-gone era: F Troop.
Sgt O'Roarke to Agarn: I don't know why everyone says you're so dumb!
