Yeah, but my favorite was Mike. You NEVER hear anyone say that...it's always Mickey or Davey.

Yeah, but my favorite was Mike. You NEVER hear anyone say that...it's always Mickey or Davey. Actually, character wise, Mike's my second favorite (Micky is my favorite though). I liked the fact he was the straightman to the other's antics (yes even Davy was silly). He was funnier because of it. I also think he was the only one who could do "What am I Doing Hangin' Round" justice (though I think he's a Texan, I can't see the others singing it well). It's by far one of my favorites. But, to be on topic a bit, I remember watching the Christmas story they did (even have it on tape). Though I like all of it, my favorite scene is the ending where they're singing "Riu Chiu." It's a cappella, and they do an awesome job, definitely contradicting those who said otherwise. It's on the "Monkees Missing Links CD" and I listen to it at Christmastime at least once.

My favorite is Micky... but my second I'd have to say would be Peter.

Odd since I've heard a few different versions of the songs done by the Monkees (by them too), two I've listed elsewhere, and now I remember listening to "Star Collector" and "Love is Only Sleeping." But, this thread helped me wake up another song in my memory for a screencaption. Don't know why, I haven't heard it in a long time. (It's on the tape I have, and currently, my tape player is broken.)

I have the entire Monkees catalog, plus lots of extras (solo CDs, internet downloads, etc.) Great caption for "Laugh," btw.

It's funny because it's not in the circus episode now the more I think of it (that one had "She" and "Sometime in the Morning,") but it works well with the photo of Ralph in the suit and clown gear.

I had lunch with Davy once 10 years ago...He has/had a house in WIlliamsport, PA area and used to have a studio in SUnbury. It was right after he made those Pizza Hut Stuffed Crust commercials with Ringo. Davy was a very funny guy. In junior high years ago, each student had to do a report on a rock musician and try to dress up if possible as the person. I put on a wool hat (I had sideburns growing for the school musical), and did my report on the Monkees as Mike (Texas drawl and everything..) There were a bunch of Monees fans in the class in '86 probably because of the reunion and stuff so I got away with it...Micky and Mike were my favorites...Micky was funny and Mike just had a reserved humor about him... I can remember watching the Monkees in reruns when I was 3 or 4 years old so I grew up on them and the Brady Bunch (and their bad cartoon show)....

I have just about everything Monkees related. Favorite album... it's a toss up, but "Birds, Bees..." usually resides close to the top at all times. "Not bad for a long-haired weirdo, huh America?"

The Monkee albums I like best are "Missing Links Vol II" for Mike's stuff... "Pisces, Aquarius" and "Headquarters." The songs on "Live 1967" actually sound better to me than the albums they originally came from. And out of the more recent albums, I like "Pool It" best. I have the Reunion episode that came on a couple of years ago on VHS that I recorded off TV...that's the one where they played it like the show was never cancelled. I also have "Head" on DVD, which incidentally became the first DVD I ever owned as I did not have a DVD player at the time...it was a gift from my girlfriend for Christmas and she accidentally clicked the DVD option instead of VHS during ordering. (And yes, there's an obvious joke in that which I have already heard, so go ahead and say it and get it out of your system! )

WHo has a fave album: I think mine is Pisces, Aquarium, Capricorn, Jones with Headquarters a close second SAVE THE TEXAS PRAIRIE CHICKENS!!! Irony is the prairie chicken is an endangered species today (definitely guarded). Anyway, out of the ones I have, my favorite albums, in order, are More of the Monkees ("Sometime in the Morning" one of my top favorites), Justus (the 1996 release, tied for first), "Pisces, Capricorn, Aquarius and Jones, Ltd.," one of the collections I have, Headquarters, and a Missing Links collection. (Funny thing, I thought I hadn't bought "Pisces. ..." but the songs match the CD I have. I'll have to look at the jewel case to be sure. But it's the one that includes "What Am I Doin' Hangin' 'Round?," "Love is only Sleeping," and "Salesman." And I know it's an album, not compilation. ) I have a few of the stories on video and the movie "Head." Now the movie is definitely not the show, especially the first 15 minutes, but I know a bit about the backstory behind it, so knowing that, it's not as bad as people made it out to be. Some parts are very funny, IMO. Now, the 1996 reunion movie they did was very funny and, while they poked fun at themselves and the show (well, mostly on it), it was a lot like the original series. Wish I had recorded it, but knowing my luck, it would have been eaten up by my VCR. )

Leonard Maltin gave Head 3 stars out of 4 and gave it a really positive review.... It's a movie that I get more out of every time I watch it... Especially with the Black Box

Especially with the Black Box I like the black box scene, it's one of my favorites, and I like the music. Only part I sometimes have trouble getting through is the first 10 minutes of it, afterward, it's pretty good, but between it and the '96 reunion, I liked the reunion better for the story (though I like the music in both).

I truly wonder what the music for the show would have been like (based on Headquarters and Head) if Don Kirschner would have let them write and play more songs for the show
