OK, as I've said I'm doing another blood drive this Friday. Of course, it's the 13th, so it's one of those things that makes you laugh at the irony. Doubly so when you realize it's at the hospital. Don't know yet about the Jelly Belly dream bean contest, but found out two things: a. The Dark Chocolate ones are good and b. the dispensers - if you like to add several flavors to your purchase - has a hair trigger. In the case of the latter, I wanted to only get a few dark chocolate and Dr Pepper beans, but when I just pushed on the dispenser, wound up getting almost a third of a pound each. Good thing I like both flavors. :-\ And, I have figured out most of my fair projects - just now need to get Fimo Clay for one of the projects. Mom will like it though - it's going to be a bracelet with handmade claye turtles.

I had to have blood drawn today.
I almost pulled a Mac and passed out.
I hate it. It stinks!

I hate it. It stinks! Gosh hope you feel better Jo. Fortunately, I haven't fainted from a shot or blood drawn, but in fairness it's because my allergist when I was young was paranoid and made sure that I always laid down before he gave said procedures. That said, it still is a concern because I did faint when I was little - and hate getting shots in the crook of my arm. The phobia's getting better though - I actually am going again within four/four and a half months after my last donation (in the once a quarter frame). Last time it was nearly two years later after the first time I donated.

Well, another donation come and gone, and this one was easier than the last one (and no trouble - though if something did happen there was plenty of help ). I did the same donation as last time - the one they use apheresis. Didn't hurt much (kinda like a mosquito bite) when they stuck me, and it was done pretty quickly. It had some funny moments though. Part of this donation you end up getting some of the stuff back into you as well as saline. Well... the saline can tickle, which happened today. I shook my other arm slightly because I couldn't scratch or move the other one, and one of the phlebotomists asked if I was OK. I said "Yeah, but it tickles." He then chuckled and said "Yeah, that's because we put in the tickle juice just for you." This blood center has a great group of people, making sure their donors are all right and putting the somewhat nervous ones such as myself at ease. Even will get a shirt soon... they were supposed to have shirts but forgot to bring them, but will mail them to those who donated. Glad they did that - it will be the first one I get as a donor in about two years, at least as an actual donor (I have one as a thanks for the photos op). Last one didn't have shirts.

You know, all this talk about TVLand has made me think about all the juggling routines I've done over the years. The odd thing to me was how many of the routines have been tied into TV now. I'm not including movies that have aired on TV on in the case of "In the Mood" a popular song for period shows such as "Goodnight Sweetheart" and WWII movies: - "Star Trek IV" - of course the "Star Trek" series.
- "Mission: Impossible" - though popular (mostly because I juggle Slinkies in this one), I did the routine so many times that I was sick of it for a while.
- "Apollo 13" - guess news here though.
- "The Wild, Wild West" - though not quite the original theme. Still think it's the original theme with the notes inverted though. Will have to find a new gambler hat to wear though next time I do it - my other one apparently got sat on (though fortunately, it was a cheap reed woven one for $12 from Hobby Lobby" ) First time I used a prop for a trick too - had the hat on a coat rack, which I would take off and put the hat on my head.
- "Lost in Space" - the closing titles to the movie. They were PG rating, not the PG-13 ones they used in the actual movie though. Reason - there's dialogue woven into the music, and in the movie version, it has a few sexual innuendoes in it and it ends with "This mission sucks." The one on CD says "Last one to kill a bad guy buys the beer." Only one I've been able to fit a standing "Y" while juggling into the mix (and almost had my fall two years before I actually did juggling to "GAH." )
- "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" - "Journey of the Sorcerer" was the base, but it's varied up a few times as well. Was used in the radio, TV and movie series. Only time too I've juggled towels and carried on a bag while juggling.
- "Star Wars" - Cartoon Network had "The Clone Wars" on for a while IIRC. First time I ever won a talent show, and the craziest because I chose last second to juggle to the routine (meaning the costume was rushed - all black, silver sash and glitter eye makeup. )
- "Doctor Who" - current version is the one I use right now, but I have a routine to the Peter Howell and opening title sequence of the Keff McCullough versions.
- "The Greatest American Hero" - probably one of the most popular ones ever used. It's one of my favorites because it is a fun challenge to juggle to the lyrics and play with the words instead of the notes more often. It's probably the only one too that I haven't been asked what the song actually was from.
And, this year I've considered doing a routine to "Speed Racer" as well. It's not a bad remix of the theme, but the only thing is they have a pop-and-lock style beat in the middle of it with squealing tires, so I'm not sure yet because of the sudden change in rythym. Kinda scary when it's half the songs you've juggled to in your 16-year juggling career are related to TV shows themes (10 including "In The Mood."

No Texas Juggle Girl...or Secret Agent Man. Nope, not yet, but if you can find a good version of the theme, please share it. I might try it out and see - always love a challenge (i.e. "Orange Blossom Special," "GAH" - lyrical song, etc.)

Made my key fob today, and this time had better control on the leather carving tools so I didn't end up flattening it too much. I also made a bracelet of sea shell tops and black freshwater pearls. Have to put the all in one (stain, leather protector, polish) on the key ring tomorrow, but I'll take a pic and put it on the board when it's complete. I will admit one thing - if I get totally stressed out, I can take out said stress working on my leather work projects. You have to hammer the stamps into the leather to make the design, so it'll make the impressions deep enough to take the stain and look darker against the rest of the leather.

Well, here are the projects I"ve done so far recently: Leather work: Jewelrymaking: I have a wallet, coin purse, luggage tag and key ring coin purse left to create, and don't know which one I'm going to do first. I have a rounder too, but I'm hodling off because I have one idea for it, but need to find my Dad's old leatherwork tool set or get a complete basic set for myself. I'm staying on it right now though.

Thanks Ms B. It's a lot of fun, even if right now on the leatherwork I"m limited to three tools: the square pattern, the fan and the odd texture one. I'd like to get a beveler, a couple of shadow ones and a teardrop shaped one for the idea I've got in mind - but it'll be a while one way or another. Tools now are about $3.50 a pattern minimal - before tax.

Mel! I LOVE that necklace!!! Thank you. The smaller beads are rose quartz and lapidolite. I've thought about doing an amethyst one with rose quartz and either freshwater pearls or another stone for the fair. Thing is, I don't know yet what I'd do with it - I have an amethyst stone already from Corpus Christi. Maybe could sell it or donate it to a general silent auction. Have thought about rose quartz crystal, but have yet to see it at Michael's. :-\

Only thing about my car is it's in the shop to get some freon and to fix a clip on the a/c. Runs well mostly and gets about 34 MPG in town. Still can get it up to 38/40 MPG on freeway on long trips (rare now). I have considered making a piece of leatherwork/jewelry for a contest here, but don't know yet if that'd work. :-\

Cows are now driving me batty. Had to go take pics of them today... and whenever I got near the fence, they stared at me. Finally got them to eat, but it took a while. The only animals I've ever dealt with that don't care if I'm there taking pics or not are horses. Miniature horses are even better because they tend to really be gentle and ignore someone unless they scare them.

Are you out of harm's way with the approaching hurricane/tropical storm?

Are you out of harm's way with the approaching hurricane/tropical storm? Depends on the ferocity of the storm. I'm far enough away we'll probably just get rain if we do end up in the fan of watch/warning. That said, if it does manage to get to something like Katrina/Rita, I might be more severely involved in it. They had damage for some distance inland when those hit. That said, I've got food, water and other supplies and am going to charge my portable power outlet so I have what I need just in case.
