Good to know. Good luck. Thanks. Irony will be that if this does hit, it'll be 21 years since the last one I've been in. It was Chantal - a small hurricane, but for a young one at the time a scary sight.

Why is it irony for you if a hurricane almost hits you at a random date later in your life?

Why is it irony for you if a hurricane almost hits you at a random date later in your life? Lately, a lot of things that happened when I was nine have happened again 21 years later. Some hardships, some joys, some lessons, etc. And, if it hits, we've got lots of trees here that will bend almost at the 50 degree angle - as in nearly on the ground - but more than likely spring up to stand nearly upright. Still haven't figured that one out - doubly so when it didn't lose any large limbs but the prettier tree did.

I see. So Mother Nature is trying to remind you at 30 what you were like at nine?

I see. So Mother Nature is trying to remind you at 30 what you were like at nine? Yep... just with a few extra things I have to deal with. But, I haven't seen the patterned clouds yet, so there's no spirals coming our way - at least yet. If we do get caught in the area, I probably will take pics before the storm hits. It's very interesting how the clouds will pattern out before it hits landfall. They curve and are rather thin - kinda like pulled cotton balls.

Good idea. You stand out and take pictures in the approaching hurricane. I want some wallet shots.

Good. Can I get some up close ones too, Mel? Really artsy with all of the debris and such? ;D

Good. Can I get some up close ones too, Mel? Really artsy with all of the debris and such? ;D Uh no... because these clouds come before the storm wall of rain comes and hits you. (That's one blessing we've had - never have had to deal with the false security of the eye of the storm passing over us. You get hit twice with the storm's center wall, which can be very devastating and - because some are not wise and get out of their houses - can be fatal.)

Well, one thing I've been doing lately is working on ideas and such for jewelry for the fair month after next. I've got my stuff ready for the dreamcatcher, and will begin work on it in the next day or so (need the right glue), but I've also worked on jewelry. Got this idea from someone who was giving me an idea of the type of jewelry they want. This is the bracelet I tried it with, but will do something a little fancier for hers : You hook the bracelet through the focal bead - this case the fused glass doughnut.

It looks like we might get some of the rain from Dolly later this evening. We don't have the hurricane spiral clouds here though - at least ones I know are such, so no pics. But, at least it looks like the storm didn't inflict lots of heavy damage on the coast, so that's good.

Good luck. I heard there were tornadoes spawning too. Yep, those are possible, but here it's been threatening to rain but hasn't. If it does, it'll probably be later in the evening. And, thanks for the well wishes. I'm OK with storms, but hurricanes and tornadoes are two that I do have to worry about at times. :-\

OK, I guess it does look like a Life Saver. It's about an inch and a half wide, and does work well as a piece of jewelry. I'm working on the purple one a little bit tonight, and will finish it I hope tomorrow. Headache is interfereing with some of the finer detail work.

I like it! Thanks. I'm working on a purple version for the fair, and will finish tomorrow. The hook is the hardest part of the bracelet to make, and have a slightly different version to make for this one than the basic one on the blue bracelet. Then, I might try the button pendant that I want to make. Got the idea in my head - just need to figure out a couple of points on the execution of the design. (Sorry, it's been a while since I've been super interested in jewelrymaking. )

I remember doing an essay on glass in elementary school for class. Did pretty well on it, even though I wrote it in I think the third grade. Little did I know that I'd be facinated with actually making it for jewelry years later. As I've mentioned before, I got a kiln for Christmas that makes fused glass. After working out the quirks (and a little help from Mom ), I made my first three projects. Here's a pic of the three: The bracelet was first (it was also the easiest. ), the red pendant the second and the blue third. It's not a super fancy kiln, but it is fun to work with. Do have one idea in the works, but it'll be after a few more peices are made so I can understand the how the glass works.
