I didn't like the "Beast in the Black" or the premise behind "the Shock will Kill you" (although I thought Ralph being magnitized was funny) and the "Devil in the Deep Blue Sea" because of the monsters. I can see that the show was geared towards children but most children are not into monsters. The chemistry between the trio were great in "Shock" and "Devil" but I didn't like the story about the monsters.

Gee, as an eleven year old I remember really liking the BEAST IN BLACK -- I can't recall DEVIL IN...., and haven't watched it yet, but I think sea monsters and ghosts and voodoo worshippers (like in CHICKEN IN EVERY..., which scared me in a cool way when I was a kid) were right up an eleven year old boy's alley!

For what it's worth... The Beast In The Black scared the hell out of me as a kid and still gives me the creeps now. Both the 'Beast' itself and the possession of Bill... <shudders>

Funny how Beast in the Black seems to be in either the "best" list or the "worst" list. It is one of those episodes you just either love or hate.

True, and I've seen the same for some other strange choices too. Not that anyone has said The Shock Will Kill You is their FAVORITE episode, but some people consider it the worst. Ditto for Vanity, Says The Preacher. You'll see that one rarely in the 'middle' of anyone's list.

Beast in the Black really freaked me out as an eleven year old, and I found that I still like it quite a bit as a grownup. For my money, "It's all Downhill" and "Now You See It" are the worst of the Season 1 & 2 eps. NYSI actually has a cool premise, but it never goes anywhere. The Shock will Kill you and Devil in the Deep have their bad points, but they are nowhere near as bad as IADFH and NYSI.
On a more positive note, I was pleasantly surprised to find that some epsiodes that I did not like as a kid turned out to not be as bad as I remembered. Namely, "Hog Wild " and "3 Ring Circus." I'm not saying they are great episodes, but they are not nearly as bad as I remembered. Same with Shock and the Caribbean episodes.
"Classical Gas" was so-so in its broadcast version, but the DVD version is barely watchable. It's only redeemed by Ralph's funny fits of jealousy. And the idea of L.A. Freeway performing with Air Supply.

It's been so long, I don't remember this. Are you saying Bill is possessed by a "spirit"?
That's pretty ahead-of-it's-time, really, when you think about several 90's shows that used that premise as mainstays each week.
I'll be interested to see how it was done.

Ralph was jealous, for a change? That's refreshing. Yeah! That might actually rank as one of the funniest episodes, in my book. Jealous Ralph is not so saintly. He actually uses the suit to spy on Pam, by holographing in on her. Which is the only time, in my memory, that he used the suit for less-than-noble purposes. Well, unless you count the GAHeroine baloney.

Now that 3rd season is out I am curious how this changes people's vote for the "worst" episodes. I would still consider the Hog Bikers one of the worst but you can easily add the Price is Right. Overall, however, I was not as disgusted with third season as I remember. Perhaps it is because I wasn't expecting as much (as opposed to how disappointed I was originally) but I even kinda liked It's Only Rock and Roll and Space Ranger, which I remembered hating when I was young.

I didn't remember any S3 from the first run; by then ABC had been screwing with the schedule so much, and I had a social life, I didn't pay much attention.
I think its crowning jewel is "Divorce..." but I haven't seen any others (anxious to watch "Vanity..." of course.)
As for "Space Ranger", um, yeah... I gave that one a 2 out of 5, that shows how much I didn't like it. Only good bit was Ralph knocking Bill's door down (he's done that twice now in eps I've watched), when he thinks Bill is beating the poor lad, only to discover they're playing video games (yes, we did have them back then!)
I've still got to get more S3, but I'm finding rather mediocre eps in all three seasons.
I can safely say, though, that like in my VERY favorite series, Star Trek (original, of course) even the worst eps have at least one redeeming quality, and GAH seems to be no exception.

For my money, "It's all Downhill" and "Now You See It" are the worst of the Season 1 & 2 eps. How many times have I told you people? Do not dis Patrick Hasburgh. ...Though I admit, "NYSI" is well below the quality of his later efforts on the series (and, IMO, by no small margin).

Can this post be edited to make it a poll? It would be nice to see which get the most votes, but which to include the poll? I bet half the episodes would be from 3rd season plus a few second season episodes.

I would say that SPACE RANGER is definitely at the bottom of the barrel...as is the BEAST IN THE BLACK....THE PRICE IS RIGHT....IT'S ONLY ROCK 'N' ROLL...and to round out my five, I think it would have to be HEAVEN IS IN YOUR GENES. I liked some of each of these scripts, but they are hard to watch overall. Near the bottom as well are episodes like THIRTY SECONDS OVER LITTLE TOKYO and THE NEWLYWED GAME. The NEWLYWED game seems so haphazard and then the wedding scene is good, but so short and seems thrown in there that it almost detracts from the episode.

Wow. Beast In The Black and Newlywed Game in your WORST episode list??? Don't think I've heard both those mentioned in the bad section together before - that's interesting. I'm very sour on almost all the final, season three episodes, although I like "Vanity..." now more than I did originally.

Some aspects of the show seemed too haphazard in the NEWLYWED GAME...although I did like the wedding ceremony.

Even then, after re-watching it, I think that it was too haphazard and that it should have been fleshed out more or something.

Hog Wild WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA... you rate Beast as one of the worst?? I agree about Hog Wild, Lilac's, and Wizards. I welcome the tone of Lilac's but that's about it. I like The Newlywed Game, but the ending is too rushed. Although it is pretty cool to see Ralph knock down the double doors and the "oh hell" look on Powers face.
