It's just been my experience that even great actors can't save a poorly written script. I think she wasn't funny because most of her dialogue wasn't funny.

True, but I have also seen her in a Rooms to Go commercial where she was supposed to be funny (and the dialogue is obviously funny), but she came across as annoying, more so here than in "GAHeroine" And it's the only commercial I've ever seen her do for Rooms to Go, and it didn't air long. Will say she was perfect in the "Renegade" episode she was in - Bonnie and Claire, because it played up more to her strengths than weaknesses. (and for the "GAH" fans, they got to see her get booted off a boat by the good guys. )

Yeah the acting profession is tricky because you do get put into categories of what you "can" or "can't" do.
I remember reading a review of First Love which basically said Katt was too good looking for the role of a bookish, awkward romantic (because you couldn't believe he'd ever been unlucky in love, hehe). Though personally I thought it worked in the film! But I think it does show how the industry tries to categorize people and doesn't like contradictions. I even think Katt once said that he was a comedian in a leading man's body, lol. Greatest American Hero really worked in that the character was first of all funny, and as a bonus good looking, lol. Plus the goofy suit helped balance out the heart throb thing. Sort of like when they put a gorgeous model in a movie or music video and put huge glasses on her to "nerd" her up, lol.

You make a valid point with "Greatest American Hero really worked in that the character was first of all funny, and as a bonus good looking, lol." I think where they got it wrong with "GAHeroine" is that they had a good looking woman (from objective POV by the way), but Holly didn't come across as funny. She came across as a know it all save the whales type. The addition of Sarah also didn't help any - and in fairness to Mary Ellen Stuart I think long term is also a possible reason why it didn't work too. While I've read that there were issues regarding the actor playing Kevin (family or such), that eventually just lead to him being written out, I think long term had Kevin stayed there it'd been too tough to keep the secret away from the boy and we'd had a male version of Sarah. You can only do so many "keep the truth of the suit away from so and so" - and that was obvious IMHO with Holly telling Sarah about the suit in the pilot to begin with. I think had it been picked up they'd had to take Sarah out of the show for sure because it just seemed - well - "Voyagers!" with a suit looking at it again recently. Maybe it'd been better had they had a third string utility in the form of a slightly dense boyfriend who at least for a time didn't know about the suit.

I have never minded the actress, but I think part of it's her acting. I think the writing influenced it too.

I have never minded the actress, but I think part of it's her acting. I think the writing influenced it too. There were several cases that it was obvious, such as the goodbye scene where she did get too annoying. I think the only two bits in that scene that felt genuine were Holly crashing onto Bill and saying "Hi, you must be Bill" - sounding a bit legitimately dazed, and then the bit where she nearly dislocates then break Bill's upper arm. There less would've been much more, as would her bouncing around after the training - she almost was a pinball in that case. As mentioned, I like Mary Ellen Stuart in some of her acting, but Holly she was miscast. She did well with what she had, but I think long term she would've been more of the Cathy Crosby "Wonder Woman" and not the Linda Carter version. One thing I do like about her though is that she does occasionally have a stammer or stutter in her speaking while acting. She does have those more natural issues when you get angry - not the gasps or sputters, trouble getting out words. I've seen far to many actors get angry but have perfect diction when they act. To me that seems more fake.
