Lol I’m thinking about making him an offer after I get my Christmas tips lol Good luck with that! I know it would have a good home with you. Something else I found amusing about the seller of the fake suit. He has a store bought rubber alien he claims is from the X-Files for only $12,000. Funny thing is, I have one too and it’s not from the show. I’m not an X-Files expert, so perhaps the production bought some off the shelf aliens and used them. COAs are worthless, and of course it’s signed by the same Scott Velvet as the fake suit COA.

Hey green guy/Johnny! Very informative about the suit and communicator. I’m new to this and this may be a new topic for a new thread but you have me curious about the insignia. You had pointed out the differences between the insignia actually used on the show and the fake on the suit listed for sale on eBay. Are there ways to see the show used (and correct) insignias side-by-side with an analysis of each. I’m curious how many variations and subtle changes to the insignia occurred throughout the course of the show. I was thinking of getting a tattoo of one on my back and I wanted to use a correct show-based insignia. Thanks! Joe

I could probably put that together Joe. I have put together a couple of group photos showing the fakes compared to the insignias they are supposed to replicating. However, I’ve never put together a group of the actual insignias used on the series and showing their differences. I’ll start looking through my episodes and photo collection to come up with a photo analysis showing how they changed. That will be a good piece for my website too. Thanks for the suggestion, and hopefully it helps you make a decision on what version you like the best.

Hey Green guy/ Johnny: I just wanted to share: I just received the book today, “The Naked Truth,” by Jean-Pierre Dorleac. He states that he’s responsible for the eventual design of the suit and made a prototype and two additional suits. So three suits right out of the gate (which proves your case further than more than merely 5 for the whole show). So it made me curious. Do you know of other books written about the show? Dorleac’s take is very interesting although it’s very brief. Are there other books out there that discuss the beginnings of the show, the actual run of the show, and to the show’s eventual cancellation? I’d love to be able to read anything I can get my hands on about the show. Thanks!

There are no stand alone books written about the show, but off the top of my head the series is written about in the selections below:

Thanks so much! Gonna try to order these. Dorleac had some cool stories about tgah in it! I didn’t want to spoil anything! I can’t find a seller that has it in stock.😱 I have one Dorleac story. Back in 2009 I found his contact information and mailed a letter asking for an interview to use on my website or a possible book. In a few days I received an email from his “assistant”, it said in part: I'm sure you can understand that it is quite impossible for him to grant everyone's wish because of time. Therefore he has limited these requests to feature articles about his work alone, and to only those who will pay for his time. He is not interested in sound bites or becoming a paragraph in some summary
Sincerely, Don Nelson Assistant to Jean-Pierre DorléacSometime after that I was told by two people heavily involved with Battlestar Galactica fandom that Dorleac would pose as his own assistant and ask to be paid for his time. Is that true in this instance? I don’t know, but I did not pursue the matter. I’m not a wealthy “Madison Ave” type that can afford to pay for interviews. Regardless, I want to read the book. 😁

The ebay seller has posted more photo's, one is a close up view of the insignia. I thought I would take the time to produce a side by side showing it and the fake insignia from my collection. You can see in the photo the incorrect lines, stitching, etc are a match. Log into the forum and click on the thumbnails to see a larger view. Here's another compare photo, this time with my fake insignia (placed on a red shirt) along with the the same close up portion of the insignia from a real production used costume. You can see the fake does not have the correct style of stitching, the fake has a dark grey felt backing, the real is a light grey and is not felt. I'm keeping the exact type of fabric for the backing to myself for identification purposes. Because of the wild upward slant of the inside open book on the fake I can't even shoot a photo exactly the same because the black line gets into the picture. If one studies the photo's it's easy to spot other differences too.

Hey green guy Loved the analysis of fake and real insignias and costume. Do you know if there are official descriptions of the colors. Do you know the shade or red? There’s black (obviously) and is the background white or a light gray (hard for me to tell). Thank you for helping us fans. If it wasn’t for you one of us would’ve been out $23,000!
