Mel said "I am, however, going to still keep an eye out for one of these figures in antique (well here probably the original sets) and specialty stores. You never know if you'll get lucky. It's worked before."
Oh, don't I know it! I was at Goodwill and saw something rainbow-y, and homed in on it (sis and I always try to out-do one another in tie-dye and rainbow stuff) and lo and behold, it was what I believe is an ORIGINAL "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" movie poster, professionallly framed! People I've asked around about have said this thing may be worth up to $300, and I paid fifteen bucks for it! The reason I believe it's an original is that it's copyrighted 1978, and all of the ones I found online that guarantee they're original movie posters are all copyrighted 1979, when the movie came out! And I believe it's a three-sheet, meaning it's BIG. If I recall the dimensions, it's 27x45 or so. Hanging on my wall (off a stud in the wall, of course, the professional framing is very heavy), right in front of my monitor. Sure, not my favorite of the Trek movies, but it brings me back to that exciting night when it premiered and all my sci-fi geek buddies gathered at the John Danz theater in Bellevue (east of Seattle) to watch the first NEW Star Trek in 15 years!
Okay, going on here, sorry. Back on topic. I'm wondering if this Ralph figure will be out by Norwescon. Any news yet if it's been released? Didn't they say it was going to be at that convention? What're the dates? (Too lazy to read the whole thread to find out, lol!)

If it is the same one they are all over ebay for about $100. I knew that would happen.

Goes back to the PS3's that people were waiting in line for. They wanted them to sell them on e-Bay. I wrote a story on that and kept it very true to the nature of the kids (and I use this to mean they were acting like kids despite being college students) were to me. Sure, you could hit it fairly big on e-Bay, but why spend money on something just to turn around and sell it (other than rhetorical?) Personally, if I got one and it was signed by Katt, I'd have it signed with my name (if he was willing) so no one could steal it and try to sell it complete. People don't like collecting those without the boxes and the personalization negates the value of it being autographed. Maybe I'm cynical here, but I just think that it's ridiculous to spend money to go to a convention, meet actors get autographs and play monetary Russian Roulette trying to win out with those sigs. It's rude to the actors too IMHO, and I'd personally wonder if my autograph was going to be sold or appreciated.

Looking at the neckline of the cape, it appears that whoever made these had the same burst of inspiration as I did--using the cape from the reissued Mego Dracula figure, which already has the red trim! :-)
The ones showing up on eBay though look to be a more customized version...drat! Wish I had been there!

Who thinks that REALLY looks like Pam? It doesn't look like Pam. They should've given her bangs, as Pam does have them, just normally kept them brushed away from er forehead. And, it's funny to see Ralph have yellow eyeshadow on the original prototype (or his eyelashes). They did a really good job on the new ones. You can tell they paid attention to the hair as well as the teeth, which can be a hard detail as a lot of designers will have the teeth level across. His, while straight, don't do that. Hopefully, they'll do one for Connie and Culp as well. Maybe they could also do a short production on them for places such as Best Buy and comic book stores that feature limited edition memorabilia, such as the Star Wars light sabers and such during "Revenge of the Sith."

Ok, so did I read/hear somewhere that Katt's going to appear at this year's ComiCon, or did I imagine it? Is anyone going this year? (I'm not, obviously being half a world away.) Feel the love. dolfyn.

He has been and going to be. They list which ones they are going to be at in the comic bd. Where (city or state) do you live?

(But, even here I feel like she's as close as the nearby town here. That's how well this show fits around the world. ) Do wonder if Katt's going to be at a convention in Texas though.

Yeah, Ms B, sorry to say I'm a bit far away to get to ComiCon. Although, I did go to the Aussie version here (called SupaNova) this year, & got to meet John Rhys-Davies. He was awesome. Also there was Lou Ferrigno, Michael Winslow, & a few others whose names I can't remember right now because it's 1am here & I have to go to bed!! But anyway, the reason I asked is because if anyone will be going to a convention to see WK, I'd really love to send something over to be given to him (& hopefully get an autograph!). ;D Feel the love. dolfyn.

Wow, must've been cool to meet Ferrigno and Winslow. My brother was fortunate enough to meet Ferrigno at a DVD signing and shake his hand. And, I've always liked Winslow's talent for sound effects. I remember the time he recently visited "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," and he did sound effects that were supposedly the eliminated singer's real feelings of the judges... In this case, Paula he did a funny version of "The Twilight Zone" theme, Randy a literal parody of his tendency to use the word "Dog" for everything (meaning a mimicry of Randy's voice and a dog coming to bark) and Simon... well it was a bit different out of the two - literal take on elimination (gunfire).

Ah, slight clarification: I didn't actually meet Lou Ferrigno or Michael Winslow, I only saw them at their autograph tables. I only met John Rhys-Davies (Gimli from Lord of the Rings, Sallah from Indiana Jones, the Professor from Sliders) because he approached me & chatted to me before he sat at his table, then I actually lined up for his autograph as well. He seemed to take a shine to me because he talked to me the longest, about 20mns or so! Everyone else got about 5mns. He was lovely, a real gentleman. He even gave me a kiss on the cheek at the end! ;D Feel the love. dolfyn.

That is very neat, and something to remember and treasure.

I met Rhys-Davies also, at AdventureCon in Knoxville several years ago. Really friendly, chatted, posed for pictures. Unfortunately, almost none of the photos came out. The only one we salvaged was one of my younger brother and his horror-movie icon, Robert Englund, which happened to be taken with a separate disposable camera. We were so glad to have that one as my brother was really excited to get to meet him and have an actual conversation. We were really bummed out about not getting any other pictures; my mother is a big Indy fan and loved getting to meet Sallah. Indy: "Snakes...why did it have to be snakes...?" Sallah: "Asps...very dangerous. You go first." She loves that line.
