That said, I wonder what all the recent talk of actors claiming they have auditioned for the role of Ralph Hinkley? The latest "known" actor to claim this was Ian "90210" Ziering. Now, and no slam on Collazo's project, but I don't think these mainstream Hollywood actors are auditioning for TGAH2008. So why are they claiming this if there is not some official project in the works? I would rather believe (and not just because I want something to happen) that SJC is denying everything for alterior motives (don't want to give cred to TGAH2008; want to publicize A-Team over TGAH for now; don't want to jinx anything after numerous false-starts). However, as GG says and Mortimer has said in the past, any publicity for SJC is good publicity, so anything official would be in Variety, etc. So, is Ian Ziering (et al) under some weird delusion, does Collazo really have money to burn, or is SJC lying? Perhaps these actors will pop up on April 1st and let us in on the joke... Are we being Punk'd? I know I'm literal, but I feel it's time to show my cards so to speak. This is the e-mail that I received from SJC's group, with my original inquiring e-mail. I want to emphasize that my reference to the "TGAH 2008" project is not based on opinion, only the possibility that there is confusion on the part of that group (especially since at one time they did have a MPAA rating on the site - since removed) and these rumors being touted about. They have in recent times, popped up any time something big has happened in "TGAH 2008." That said, if my original e-mail reads as such (though I had two people here read it prior to my sending it and felt it was neutral), I will mod/edit this post as need be: <E-mail> Dear Mel, We are planning a Greatest American Hero movie inhouse. There is no date yet for start of production. Any news will definitely be posted to our website. Thanks very much for your email and support. Regards, Joan Cannell.com
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: (MelMac) Sent: Thu 2/21/2008 1:25 PM To: Questions Subject: question about a "GAH" rumor
Dear Mr. Cannell,
I wanted to say thank you for sharing your talents in writing many great shows over the years. My favorites are "The A-Team" and "Greatest American Hero."
That said, I do have a question regarding one of the shows. Lately, I've read and heard rumors about a "GAH" movie being filmed. Can these be verified, as none of the stories I've read online show where they've gotten their source?
While I've seen blogs about one being green lit for July, I also know a fan-film series endeavor called "TGAH 2008" is scheduled to air the same month (on July 4), and have wondered if the bloggers were getting confused with the two endeavors. This also has been a question since the "TGAH 2008" group's Web site, www.tgah.com, also reminds me of big screen film production's sites, which can be confusing to a causal "GAH" fan.
Thank you for your help, and again, thank you for sharing your talents with the world. I look forward to hearing from you.
Mel</quote> ------------------------------ That said, why would Ian Ziering and others claim they've auditioned for it? Simple - two reasons, one you mention (though given the amount of rumors I feel iffy) and the other to put their name out in the spotlight. Ziering, who could possibly be a good Ralph (if they so choose to go this route), has not really been popular since his days in "90210." A lot of these other actors I don't know either, and most aren't as "mainstream" as they at least once were. Overall, these rumors harken to the days I've seen lately of people being "auditioned" for the role of the Doctor or one of his companions in the BBC show "Doctor Who." While it's pretty much official that the incumbent Doctor (David Tennant) is in there through 2009, people still go about with the rumor mills that they've been auditioned for the role to replace Tennant before then, to bring up publicity for both the show and themselves. More often than not, however, it's bringing up the person, and the official groups deny it - sometimes, ironically enough, even the actors. One point - I'd be surprised if they were auditioning for "TGAH 2008" anyway. It's currently in production - though again it's possible it's frozen in suspended animation because we've heard nothing on it for over three weeks now. It's more confusing than anything. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I probably shouldn't start this, but fellow forum readers. If you happen to run across these and see where you can comment or give a reply. Don't be afraid not to comment and set the facts straight from what we know and have discussed here.

What gets me though is that I do think it's a plausible idea, but the things they're mentioning make me skeptical that this is a legit announcement. Then again, I've also read some interesting comments about "TGAH 2008" on some other messageboards that I hope for their sake are not true. (i.e. DC comics drawing the comic book for their project).

Okay, I took your hint and scrolled down, found the comments and read them. Some of the same old, same old we all have memorized by now, but it was fun to see JoshT's comments and your command of French, MSTClaye. I can write "see vu play", and "wee!" but not sure of proper French spelling... Mona

Mona Yes, it's the same old same old but these bloggers need to understand that this is not a legitimate source - never has been. "A friend" can be anyone, and the source they're using for this being greenlighted was a blank document site - which has errors in it. If it were from a legit site that's one thing, but I've yet to see this in any official capacity.

Same old, same old, and same old! Mona (nothing personal, Mel, just having fun) Yep, I understand... but I do find it funny too that these movie rumors are being spouted off more than the "TGAH 2008" project. Makes you wonder too the status of it.

Well, him turning into a human torch is not that different from him not having control of his fire-making ability, in particular his setting things on fire BEHIND him. It's probably not a leap to have Ralph mistakenly burst into flames while exploring that suit ability once again. I can see the humor in it, with him screaming for Bill to put him out!

These rumors have got to stop. I see this as one big snowball of lame rolling down the hill getting larger and larger as it speeds down the hill. We will either end up with TGAH 2008 or possibly a movie like Will Smith's movie that is either out or coming out that has nothing to do with TGAH except for the slightest story/origin comparison.

Mona True, and the pyrokinesis ability isn't the issue, but I can so see Marvel suing the production for ripping off Johnny Storm from "Fantastic Four" if Ralph can totally turn on fire. Unlike Superman, however, this time it's got more credulence. Superman I always felt was a bad one to use for the challenge as Ralph could also still be injured/knocked unconscious from simple things (Well... crashing into a train is simpler than a meteor, which was what caused Superman's amnesia that one ep in the series. )

We will either end up with TGAH 2008 or possibly a movie like Will Smith's movie that is either out or coming out that has nothing to do with TGAH except for the slightest story/origin comparison. I'm starting to seriously think that this is malarky anyway. (Warning for Mona and HD - I'm going to repeat myself here ) The whole "listing" as far as who was directing this was apparently done on a blank URL. It also was typed up more like a simple memo with the names and such. Personally, I feel it a bit like a wish list created by someone. Also, I've noticed too that the director's gone from "Oh we want a big name star" to now... an average Joe? Plus, they're missing Bill - who is an important character in the show too and without him it wouldn't work. In fact, not having Bill and Ralph together would ruin this more than having Will Smith as James West. (Hears Mona and other Bill fans swoon in surprise). We'd have the reverse scenario of "GAHeroine," where Ralph and Pam stayed, but Bill was gone. The biggest issue I've had with this has always been that this is supposed to start filming in July 2008. "TGAH 2008" is supposed to be airing... July 4, 2008. Coincidence? - I'm really starting to believe not. I really think people are confusing the two, especially given that "TGAH 2008" does look like it's a serious movie info site and at one time even had the MPAA ratings on it (though we found out were possibly from "Bridge to Terabitha" - either case it was ripped off another movie as there was nothing filmed on the project at the time).

I don't see why you expend so much energy, Mel. If you ignore them, they will leave. If it does happen, it probably won't pull in fans of the original because it will probably not be true to the original. Why not just ignore everyone saying it is going to happen and wait until it does? The A-TEAM movie has gone through the same thing for years...and nothing.

The A-Team movie rumors have nitwits running the gamut with rumors so outlandish it's laughable? I think the reason we're making a big deal about this is because if it turns out NOT to be a movie but a big confusion about you know what... *nudge* *nudge* then someone might get the backlash and possibly ruin it for a legitimate chance of a movie. If a movie is made, it probably won't be the best film ever, but why even ruin a chance of it with this drivel? Hey HD, just for you if a movie DOES come out. I'll try my best to find them locations!

Here's another laughable newsie.. From conversationalball.com/2008/greatest-american-hero-now-even-greater/pt/ translated to english... "Moviehole updates readers on the film adaptation for The Greatest Amercan Hero. With Owen Wilson no longer linked to the project's lead role of Ralph Hinkley, it is believed that a relatively unknown actor will land the part. Interestingly, Hinkley's superpowers have been increased for this version of the TV series, with the character's ability to fly being only one of many powers he has. As for Hero character Harve Lundy, the part is now that of "a fat 35-year-old teacher at the same school as Ralph. His classroom has all the desks and seats at the back of the room and his desk is on a high platform overlooking them."
