A week ago Friday, on the 19th, this board turned 2 years old. On March 18th, tGAH will turn 26 years old... My gawd, has it been that long? Things have certainly changed around here. This is the thread for planning an upcoming chat to celebrate both milestones above, and hopefully re-attract some old members yet again. (When we get a day/date/time confirmed, I will send out another mass email. I will also take suggestions on other places to send notices to attract NEW members ) BTW, March 18th falls on a Sunday this year, so let's start by clearing your calendar for that day (i.e. no church, no vacations, no weddings, no spring training, no Homer, Ty, Bree, or Donald, nothing but PB&R!) Well, ok, maybe church, but no socializing afterwards!

Milestone after milestone around this place isn't it? I will hopefully be able to make the chat this year...although since it is a weekend, my wife may not let me have my jar back, MyTatuo. I think that announcing it on each forum that has a GAH-theme can start...mass email for another (although some old members might have changed emails or opted-out). Maybe you could advertise on all SJC proboards...or see if SJC's website will allow us to post about it and inspire interest. I think the chat should be in AIM so everyone can get access. I still cannot access the one here...although I know it would be harder to have a transcription of this year's in AIM. Not that the last one is complete I am told.

I'll definitely put it in my newsreel. It's odd for me too, because I'll be celebrating my 2nd anni. on the baords on March 22.
The chat was fun last year, and I'm more than likely going to be able to chat that night. Now, how sane I seem to be might be a different story. (Why I say that... last year, the chat introduced the phrase "And it wasn't my fish.")

Another way we might inspire people to show up...and maybe recall some old members...is by doing door prizes. Every hour of the chat, a name from those attending could be drawn by GG or MyTatuo and that person could win something. It could be a special rank, custom title, custom smiley, or it might be something like a cameo in AAH's comic...if he would be amenable to such an idea. What do you all think?

AAH said he was willing to do a cameo of someone in the comic strip ... and original art if I remember. We'd have to ask him again though, as it was some time ago. As far as custom sigs and such, that's cool too. The cameo could be the big prize of the night. Now, choosing... I don't know, because you can't just put names in a hat and draw electronically.

We should probably plan a game of some sort, so that the prize-selection process will be a little more above-board ("Hey, MyTatuo picked Mel? It's FIXED!") And if AAH doesn't want to do the cameo idea, I vote that the in-chat winner gets an instruction book, provided by greenguy! (Well, he is the owner of the site, after all! Plus, who wants an instruction book from MyTatuo? Makes no sense )

I figured there would be someone like MyTatuo or GG who could do it. We should trust them to draw REAL names out of a REAL hat. Or if someone does not want to be involved in the prizes, have them do it...hopefully we can trust each other enough to allow that.

Too bad there isn't a randomizer here that you can just punch in the list of names on that site, say "Pick a name" and that name win. Of course you'd still risk someone crying foul and such. I think the idea of a trivia challenge would be great, and someone who doesn't want to play can keep score for the event. That'd be the fairest, but it'd need someone who is quick-eyed to get the response first. Afterall, we'll end up with 20 same responses and 20 "damns" if someone isn't judging based on response times. There is one question I've got in my head that stumped everyone last time I asked it, and I'd love to ask it again.

As for the trivia, I would have gotten it had I been there.

I'll build my life around this.

Most ironically forgot about the pilot episode in answer to the question, but got the other two times right. Then again, I need to tweak my answer to include two more instances that aren't quite the same, but the way I asked it have to be included after all.

I've posted the information over on Culpalicious.
Will this be in AIM? Or in the GAH board's chat? People seem to do well in AIM. It's easy to build the chat room, give it the name you want, and invite folks in. The room creator doesn't need to remain, either. Everyone is able to invite others into the current room as well, so if one person has someone on a buddy list, but not the room creator, he or she can still be invited in.
Just a thought.

The original chat room seemed to work fine for the first one, but of course people's computers could've changed over the course of time (mine has) or that program has to work on its landings. Since we've got some time, we could have a couple of testers (hopefully more than just MyTatuo and me again. ) with the programs and such to see what happens. If all else, AIM probably would work best.

I like the instruction book idea from GG...PRESUMING the man shows up. As for it being fixed, I would like to think we could trust the mods like MyTatuo and the admin like GG to not fix the contest. Of course, if there are only four or five people are there, it would make sense that if Mel is there, she might win. We could outlaw mods to win, but that might mean we would have fewer winners than hours of the chat. How would a game be structured? Just like Mel's trivia question from last year, people can interpret the answers different ways and be right...but would the person who asked the question have ultimate say? People could complain of it being fixed there too.

Well, given I won $40 in Mary Kay cosmetics at an event because I had a purse that Aidan would love (don't ask) I see your point there HD. And, do you know what question it was that I asked specifically? I'm just curious is all becasue there's really only one answer. You can PM me it if you want to ask and not let anyone else know.

I think it would be easier to trust the mods when the evidence is right in front of everyone, ie. everyone shouting out ep titles, and the first one make a typo, the mod could say that he/she still gets the point. Have a mod say, OK time to roll my die, well lookie lookie, Mel won again! not trustworthy. Of course, that's an extreme example, but hard feelings may still creep up... And we can't exclude MODS! I want an instruction book too! Another suggestion for a game, besides "Guess Which Ep This Line Is From" is a hangman/wheeloffortune style game such as: HD: "*** **** *** **** **" **** "****** ****" Mel: Gimme an A. HD: "A** **** *** **** **" **** "*****A ****" BW: Gimme an E. Jo: C! HD: "A** ***E *** *EE* *E" **** "*E*E*A ***E" HD: No C, Jo. You're out! Jo: Ah, who cares what you think, anyway!

I see your point I guess. I was thinking with the draw the name and not put it back in the hat, but I can see that some would feel bad if they lost...maybe since GG is supplying the instruction book that could be a different game that he is in charge of since he can't win?

Even you said here you forgot about the pilot, so obviously we can't trust YOUR memory on your own trivia questions.

I sent you a PM to clarify what happened with it (I'm keeping here though in case I do use it. ) And, why does everyone like using me as the "lucky" winner with the potential of the games. Keep it up, karma might bite you in the butt with it. It's happened before in real life (and I have the watch to prove it. )
