Well, you know what's even scarier than a raging thunder storm? When it suddenly stops and it is absolutely quiet!
LOL! Ah, there. It's starting to rain again.

Oh yeah, I will, thanks. Last year I was driving down a tree lined country road, and the lightning touched down in front of my car three times.

Hahahahaha! Not exactly. Maybe the luck of the Swedish. Do they have luck? I've got Swedish, Russian, Hungarian, and German to choose from. None of them are very lucky!

Be careful, ThatGirl.
You know, speaking of lightning and cars, I remember about a year ago my Mom was visiting me in the city. We had eaten dinner and were heading back to the house. Anyway, a lightning bolt hit one of the telephone poles and caused a firework. Really scary given the amount of rain on top of it.
In West Texas, I could always tell when we were going to have a snow storm because it would suddenly be quiet outside. No train whistles, no birds (there were a few there), no cars, nothing. Next morning, there would be a blanket of snow on the ground.
Rain and dust storms were the worst though, because no one there really knows how to deal with rain and dust storms can make you feel like your driving through solid copper.

Lucky we Californians only have to worry about earthquakes, wildfires, mudslides, and celebrity breakups.

Thanks, I will.
We've had plenty of fireworks around here. The transformer right outside our deck blew during the last rainstorm. It sent flames 20 feet high! It blew a total of 6 times in two weeks. Hopefully, P.G.&E finally have it fixed. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Don't want to lose all of our power again!

Do you think MelMac has a life story for everything? Sample story: I cut my finger once when I was eating a hot dog. MelMac jumps in: You know how dangerous hot dogs can be? I remember one time when I was at a ball game...I don't go anymore, but I used to go and collect baseballs. Anyway, I went to the hot dog vendor and he said that I was ruining the atmosphere of the game by COMING to get a hot dog. So I ordered and then sat down so he could throw it.... You get the idea.

OK, I'll admit, for 27, I've got enough stories to last a life time as is. It's just I've experienced a lot of varied and interesting things, and if I find something that fits a thread that I've experienced, I'll write it. But, now you mention it, I could go on about catching baseballs at professional baseball games if you'd like. ... (j/k, this is about storms, not about baseball. That was a few threads and months ago. Great, now I've gone from literal to ancedotal.)

Thanks, ThatGirl. (BTW, don't know if anyone's told you this yet, congrats on becoming a superhero. ) I tend to tell a lot of anecdotes around here lately, if I'm not being too literal or silly. There are three stories total about catching baseballs at the Astros games. The third one, a stuffed souvenir one I got this year, is one of my favorites. It was the only game I got to go to this year at Minute Maid Park, and it was for my birthday (though the day after, as they were traveling). Dad and I got there early and sat down in our seats, which were two rows behind the bullpen. Well, the Astros had already had batting practice (we had to dodge a homer hit into the concessions area), and the ball boys were cleaning up the bullpen. There were several practice and souvenir balls around the area. They gave the real baseballs to all the kids next to the dugout. Well, there was a souvenir one left, and it was just Dad, another gentleman and me. Well I stood up and smiled (I was wearing my Astros jersey too, so that helped) and they tossed it to me. The gentleman deflected it a bit and it landed in Dad's lap. He gave it to me, and we sat to watch the Reds practice. We ended up winning in a great game, and it was a lot of fun.

I think I've only been to two pro baseball games my whole life. Once a S.F. Giants game when I was a kid, and an Oakland A's game as an adult. i guess I've watched a million girls' softball games, because of our daughters, but I never really got interested in a sport until my son played football. Now, I'll even watch a football game when I'm by myself! LOL! I know baseball players are amazing also, but football just looks like a heck of a lot of fun to me.

I have only been to two Big-League games myself...and both of my teams lost...even after sensational plays. Oh well.

I've been to games for two baseball teams - one Rangers game, the rest Astros. Only reason we went to a Rangers game is because Dad got free tickets, and it was a bit confusing to watch at 5 years old.
As far as football, I'm not too big on the NFL. I enjoy watching high school and college football a lot more, probably more so because there was so much to do at the games. I've been to one pro-game my entire life, and it was again because Dad got free tickets to it. We went to a Dallas Cowboys game and pretty much sat in the nosebleed section. Don't remember too much of it but do remember it was very long and, at 5, boring. We never saw the Houston Oilers, and didn't like them (still don't as the Titans). The Texans, however, are an interesting team, though they've had a lot of bad luck lately.
(ETA - Since it's the playoffs now, I might start looking at the logos of the teams playing and see if I can predict who will win the Super Bowl. Craig Ferguson did that last year on his late night show, and was mostly accruate. Only got the prediction of the Eagles winning the bowl wrong. Pretty impressive considering he didn't follow it until then.)

Before I understood the game, I was completely bored by it. I went my whole life uninterested, until my son played, and explained the darn thing to me!
My daughter laughed at me today. She came in, found me watching, and said, "Mom you're so funny sitting here watching football all by yourself!"

She came in, found me watching, and said, "Mom you're so funny sitting here watching football all by yourself!" I still don't quite understand the game, and I was a part of a state championship football team (as mascot), so I've seen it a lot. Sad thing was, I played volleyball in high school too (four years), and I didn't understand some of the rules of the game. But, I did know the main rules to play, so I guess that was important. Saturday, after rehearsal, I went home and turned on the TV to a football game. It was half-time and they were doing their reports on who's in/out in the playoffs. The way they were talking was so confusing I almost went and got my least favorite episode of "Doctor Who" to watch, because it at least made sense. Still, yesterday they had a gymnastics/skating show on TV (yes, both together), so I don't know anymore.

And speaking of storms (been wanting to say this for a little over a month):
[glow=teal,2,300]It's raining again!![/glow]
We've had drought conditions here for a while, so it's great to hear the sound of rain pounding on the rooftops. Now, we need a few more days of it (not necessarily together) to get out of this drought. But, conversely, we don't need too much or we'll flood.

I have snow today...not a blizzard yet, but the winter was mild so it could become a freaky storm. MELMAC JUMPS IN: You know, I remember once that it snowed in Texas on Christmas Eve. It was really weird since it was 50 degrees outside but it happened. Well, my dad wanted to go sledding on it, but I thought it was not safe. So, I told him all about the sledding accident I had one winter when I was in Colorado because my plane got delayed and they had to put me up in a little hotel in Denver. Well, the hotel did really well trying to get everything together so I could get my flight the next day. Sorry, OT again...so I will get back to sledding. But I got to sled with other stranded tourists. I was going down a mountain at break-neck speed, which I think is around 45 miles an hour from what I have read. I hit a rock and landed on my head...smashed my little juggler hat. I had been travelling to a Variety show for juggling. Sorry, OT again...back to sledding. So, then I had to be taken to the hospital because I had a concussion. So, I missed my flight again and I had to wait another whole day. My dad realized that sledding can be dangerous, especially when it is 50 degrees and shouldn't be happening. He agreed, so we went inside and had eggnog...wait, what thread is this? OH NO! I was off-topic the whole time! *Continue MelMac apology rant in your own fashion*
