I think there were elements of it, but the character of Frankie ruined the fifth season...you don't agree? Frankie changed the dynamics of the show. Certainly. But I didn't dislike the character... I actually preferred him as a new team member to those broads they used to hang around... sheesh...

Personally, I prefered the girls, even when they were annoying. After all, Freddie was just there to be another Face...and they didn't need him. He changed the dynamic WAY too much. He was fine for the three-part opener, but should have been canned after that.

As a younger man with no military experience, I identified with Frankie. It made me think that maybe I had a shot at joining The A-Team someday (which I think was the idea). Also, they had to bring in someone who didn't have any bad history with Mr. T so that they would have someone willing to act with him.

You think that it was really the idea to bring in some random guy so everyone could feel a part of the team? Odd. I thought B.A. got along with everyone okay except Hannibal. Of course, if that is true, why is B.A. missing in POINT OF NO RETURN when they are in the living room discussing it?

As a mental case, I identified with Murdock. I also wanted to do him... Go figure.
Does that mean I wanted to share the love with myself?

If they knew what they were doing, how do you explain GAH's cancellation?
Or Heroine....

Everyman...who has to pay for a sick father and is pulled into some shady government service and who happens to have a Latin flair? I guess I didn't know that I related to him so well.

Come round to my neighborhood. Lots of that stuff going around...[/size]

Correction: I live in Iowa. It's different. Even when I lived in Jersey, I didn't see myself as relating to Frankie Santana.

So, you lived in Joy-sie? What exit?
Sorry J-Man. I couldn't resist. Anyway, I'm your sister here, from just over the border.
Well, I can't relate to any of these guys either. Doesn't mean I don't like the show...

I can relate to a lot of people, but I don't think Frankie added anything to the show...he was just different to watch with the dynamic. He whined more than Face.

I remember reading a TV guide interview with the guy who played Frankie... I am sorry I didn't save it... and the idea was that he was supposed to be the new hot thing. That didn't work out so much for him, did it?
The term, of course, is jumping the shark. There is a website devoted to this... when you think your fave show jumped the shark.I guess we would all agree it was season 5 for A-Team.

I wouldn't say that. It did later in the season, but not starting off. Even with Frankie, there were some good season five episodes.
I agree...I think he was supposed to be the new flavor, but it backfired. Everyone loved the original team dynamic...maybe plus Vaughn.

I think Vaughn hurt it too. The idea that they couldn't get out of his control? Come on. They could get out of anything...
I agree that it would have been best to leave it at the 3 episode opener... then move back. They two could show up a bit.... but usually when you add major new characters, things go downhill.
Not always. M*A*S*H for example did better after characters left and were replaced. But that fit with the scenario... here, the premise is harmed. But not because of the individual characters or the fact that there was an addition...

I agree that I thought Vaughn was this God-like figure. I hated how the A-Team could never pull one over on him either, but he did have good moments...more so than Frankie. Sometimes adding characters hurts...sometimes not. The second season of GAH was not hurt by the addition of the kids.

Everyman...who has to pay for a sick father and is pulled into some shady government service and who happens to have a Latin flair? I guess I didn't know that I related to him so well. His ancestry was neither here nor there. He wasn't some overly-ethnic stereotype that non-hispanics couldn't relate to. Heck, I think he only actually spoke Spanish in two episodes (anyone care to tell me which two? I'm talking full sentences. Single words peppered into English, like "amigo" and "barrio", don't count). And, yes, he was and Everyman who fate swept up to ride along with The A-Team just like you describe above.

I agree that I thought Vaughn was this God-like figure. I hated how the A-Team could never pull one over on him either... Their's was an uneasy alliance. The team was of the opinion that the could have left Stockwell if they really wanted to, but that their best bet was to stick with him for the time being. Pretty explicitly stated in episodes like "Firing Line", "Theory of Revolution", and "Alive at Five". Has everyone pre-ordered your season five DVD, yet?

No. I am just going to run to the store and get it...easier that way in my mind. I know they could have left him, but I think it would have been harder to exist...Stockwell always seemed to be ahead of them...he even knew about Murdock...their ace in the hole. It was just too much sometimes.
