I just realized there were four seasons to "The Wild Wild West."
Why I got that from reading this I will never know.

A friend of mine got one, and honestly, I can't tell the difference. He has a big old flat screen tv, though, so to me it seems like quality of tv makes a difference more than anything.
Why on earth should I spend that kind of money to play something on a 10 year old tv?
Not everyone has cash to burn.
I won't be sorry? I WOULD be sorry to shell out hundreds of dollars and then not be able to buy groceries for a month or two...
I still watch some of my favorite shows on VHS - if that's what they're on. They still make me laugh (or cry, or whatever) the same... It makes a huge difference, if you have a high definition TV. With Blu-ray, you can see all the tiny details in the background, especially noticeable outdoors such as blades of grass, leaves, rocks, etc. Just as if you were really outdoors. Of course, it depends what's important to you-----I know people who don't care one bit about such things as picture quality and are perfectly content watching old movies full of scratches, dirt, and static. If that's the case, you really don't need one. Another huge difference with Blu-ray is the sound quality-----even better than in a movie theatre if you have surround-sound. And believe me, I don't have cash to burn either. My Blu-ray player wasn't that expensive----only $300. And I'm not a gamer or anything, therefore I don't buy video game consoles (which are more expensive than Blu-ray players and---to me---would be rather a waste of money). And by the way, the Blu-ray players have come down further in price too since I bought mine last year----you can now get one for $150 (half the price I paid)

The blue ray player may only be $300, but what is the cost of buying all your old faves in that medium? And the thousnads to get the HD tv and surround sound you mention... easily we are talking $1000 just for the equipment alone.
I watch 2 or 3 hours of tv a day, at most. The news, and some fun stuff.
Sure. It's nice to have technology. I am sure a Jag or a Porsche drives better than my Hyundai, and totally a different driving experience. But I don't have that kind of money either.
What is important to me? Paying the mortgage, groceries, even spending a few bucks here and there as blow money. (Like hosting a contest here).
With that said, some people would look at my library and boggle at why I have spent so much money on obscure books and dictionaries of dead languages. Hey, works for me...
But hey, if they want to bring out GAH in blu-ray, I am sure there will be some market. ;D

To each his own! ;D I do want to keep bringing up this thread every year, however, just to see how fast this new technology is catching on (which isn't very fast at the moment, it seems). I am not going to buy all my old faves on Blu-ray----only new films that I don't already own (with a few exceptions). As for the HD TV, I already had one prior to purchasing a Blu-ray player. In any case, regular dvds are not going away anytime soon. And I still buy regular dvds more often than Blu-ray discs-----obviously because the price is generally so much cheaper and the selection so much larger. I don't want to wait 10 years to buy a movie simply because I'm waiting for it to come out on Blu-ray. Life is too short for that.

So has anyone else, among all you good folks, surrendered to the merciless advance of technology? ;D "Resistance is futile!"

Standing firm on this one, eh? You're a man of your word, I like that.

LOL! Still haven't gotten one, either. Still have the same old tv, same old Hyundai. Heck, I still have my old tracfone, to be honest.
My husband bought me a Wii for Christmas. I have barely played it. Oh well.

I still don't have a blu-ray, mostly because my VCR and DVD players are working quite well and with a HD-TV they look just as good as if I had a blu-ray one, and still cheaper.
In fact, my DVD player is about 10 years old and still purrs like a kitten (runs like a cheetah though - smooth that is).

I do! I do!
But I still do the majority of my movie and TV watching on standard DVD.

HoudiniDerek, Joz Pierce and Melmac:
Here's a question for you folks:
What will you do if ever "The Greatest American Hero" is released on Blu-Ray? Surely, then, you will finally change your minds, right?

I do! I do! But I still do the majority of my movie and TV watching on standard DVD. Same here! This is due to the fact that my DVD collection is much bigger so far than my Blu-Ray collection. Plus, the selection of movies and TV series available on DVD is still much larger than what has currently been released on Blu-Ray. This will, of course, change over time.

No. I already have the DVD set, so why do I need it again on Blu-Ray?

HoudiniDerek, Joz Pierce and Melmac: Here's a question for you folks: What will you do if ever "The Greatest American Hero" is released on Blu-Ray? Surely, then, you will finally change your minds, right? No - for me it's a bit silly to have to buy a new set of Blu-Ray DVDs for the player, even if it can also play the regular DVDs we know. The ONLY way that it'd happen is if we have all original music, which is highly unlikely, even now.

Unless a Blu-Ray can materialize Bill right next to me, I see no reason to have one. I am sure HD would feel the same as me, as long as it had a Pam option.
