"Mutant X"
Yeah, okay, so - this isn't so much a crossover opportunity missed by the producer/directors of "The Greatest American Hero" as it is a crossover that was missed by us. Not that we should blame ourselves, since Mutant X aired some twenty years after "Hero" went off the air, the connection just didn't click. At least, it didn't for me, until I began watching "Mutant X" again and it suddenly struck me. "Genomex"? Top secret government funded scientists using genetic engineering to create super powerful mutants for possible nefarious ends? Now, where have I seen that before?
Oh yeah....
Yeah, I know, that episode aired some twenty years before "Mutant X" did, but consider - the mutants on that show were in their twenties, mostly - and the know how to alter their genetic code to give them those cool super powers in vitro had to come from somewhere, right? So, it seems likely (at least to me) that the secret genetics lab we saw in that episode of "TGAH" might have had some connection to, or even been a branch of Genomex which is where the super powered mutants of Mutant X originated.

This. Right here.
Imagine the crazy hijinks that would ensue as Bill Maxwell and Ralph Hinkley try to keep the secret of the Suit from getting out while Fox Mulder and Dana Scully try to uncover the mystery of the rumored "Super Guy" and flying saucers in and around Palmdale.

Having Men In Black show up in the series would have fit TGAH's format perfectly. That would have been long before the movie made the topic known outside of UFO circles. It would funny to find the appropriate X-Files footage and cut into a TGAH episode

You’re right greenguy. I think”The Shock Will Kill You” would’ve been the perfect episode for this!

You’re right greenguy. I think”The Shock Will Kill You” would’ve been the perfect episode for this! I know a couple more super heroes who could have helped out with that....

Really? Was Cannell involved in the 80s cartoon series?

Don’t quote me. I think there was a cartoon series in development but it didn’t happen. Maybe greenguy knows more about this?
