I've personally been rather busy the past few between work and doing fundraising as well as the half marathon for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital (in Memphis, Tennessee).
This year will be my fourth half marathon, and fifth year at the race. The 2013 race - my first one - was canceled due to ice that year. Even then, I would've done the 5K instead.
On the observe of the coin however - I wouldn't be doing the half marathon I think if it weren't for the fact the 2013 race was canceled. It gave me some time to think about the year I had - 2013 was the year mom underwent surgery for colon cancer and chemo, and I saw how the stuff affected her. Had to be there for her surgery to be her voice the first day in the hospital, and of course I saw her weekly as she was getting her chemo.
I figured if Mom could go through all that nonsense, and the young man I walk in honor of could undergo countless tests, MRI's, surgery and chemo for anaplastic ependymoma (a rare brain tumor) I can suffer the 13.1 miles.
This year, I'm thinking about dressing up as a character - but it's leaning toward Thunderbirds as it's a bit more recognizable internationally. There are also a few personal reasons for the choice - and which Tracy brother I'd dress up as - why I'm going this route instead of the suit. (My other choice was Buddy Hawks from "MASK" - an easy costume to make; however, people refer to the Jim Carrey movie when I mention the cartoon that was a cross between GI Joe and Transformers with masks).
I still putter around here on occasion, if nothing else to at least see if there's anything on that attempted remake for "GAH." Personally, I don't think it was bought, and - based on the one fact I do know they had to film two pilots (like CBS' current take on "MacGyver") it may be for the best. I hope however if it's so abysmal - like "GAHeroine" quality - they NEVER let it see the light of day.

With the success of shows like THE BIG BANG THEORY, we are seeing the GAH emblem more. People might learn to associate one day, especially if there is an episode mentioning TGAH. My wife loves both versions of MACGYVER so it might not be awful to see a remake. She likes the new one because it's still MACGYVER, but as a young agent. Maybe we could see TGAH as a young JJ Beck.

Ingram - the youngster I walk in honor of, is celebrating nearly 6 years. I wish that "Big Bang Theory" would reference the show more than Sheldon's shirts however. At least it's appearing in more places however. Haven't gotten to see an entire "MacGyver" episode of the CBS version - sports kept me super busy this year at work. I do like what I've seen however and am glad it's getting a second season. Still, what I have been able to read of the Pilot ideas they had for "GAH," I will say that I'd rather it not get off the ground anytime soon until they can get it right. There were about as many errors in the history of the show and they were going to have a near repeat of Ralph Hinkley, but more in line with Holly's personality of "can't do anything wrong" (at least one of the versions of the pilot I know about). It definitely hasn't gone well however - you barely read anything about it except possibly how Nathan Fillion wants to play Ralph.

I try to keep apprised on shows that I really like and could be/or that are still on the air. "Thunderbirds are Go," which is "Thunderbirds" with a more modern look, just updated their info for season three and "Doctor Who"... well... there's a lot going on there I'm just shaking my head at the nonsense. (Of note, the version outfit I'd be wearing for the marathon is the Thunderbirds 1965 version - I'm not wearing a one piece spandex suit with their heavier sash.)
I think "GAH" could work modern day, but they just don't UNDERSTAND the show quite honestly. I think the first pilot idea they had turned the new hero pretty much a grittier version of Ralph, and he had a "handler," which I think is malarky because Bill was not his "handler," but a teammate.
Not heard hide nor hair of what the second one entailed.

Thanks guys. Been a busy few days, well months, but quite interesting. Sports start up again for the year in high school and college, so those will keep me busy (I'm still a photographer), and I'm now about to up my training (half marathon) and fundraising for St. Jude Children's Rearch Hospital, and probably start getting sewing patterns for the sash and hat I want to make for my costume for the Memphis Marathon in December.
At least the weather is finally cooling down some - I'm kind of getting tired of walking by businesses and reading how the A/C is broken from over use. In fairness though, I would rather these easy to fix issues than the flooding we had last year.

How about the little Dairy Queen style Thunderbirds hat, you wearing that also? You really must show us some photo's. Or at least share off the board with those of us who love costumes.

Oh yeah, I definitely plan on wearing that if I do dress up as Gordon Tracy. (Sorry, but Scott, Virgil and John are used a lot and I'm not dressing up as Alan... not fond of the 1965 version of him, and seriously - why a white sash? at least Gordon's orange one and Virgil's yellow one hides dirt some. ) I can get a basic for the hat from a store here that gives away the paper hats, but then adjust it so there's the points that the puppet's hats have. Costumes that are pre-made for the show look more like regular ice cream store hats or the feminine version of a tent hat.. If something happens and I can't dress up as the 1965 version, I could easily dress up as the '15 one in civilian clothes. Still it wouldn't be as much fun.

Two weeks to go now on the St. Jude Marathon Weekend.
I had to alter my costume choice due to a very VERY busy sports season (well, still going on with a really good football team we have). And given the style of uniform, I'd much rather do it right than fast. It's been about 9 years since I've used a sewing machine and fabric isn't really all that cheap. For the plain orange I need, it's about $2.50/yard alone.
It's still going to be Gordon Tracy, but the 2015 "Thunderbirds are Go" version's casual clothes.
He wears a Hawaiian shirt, distressed jeans he's rolled up as waders (well, he is the aquanaut and loves water so...), shoes and three leather bands.
Got the shirt ordered and it's on its way - found one that is very close to the one on the TV show. The jeans I've got to distress (and remember to wear leggings under because it will be slightly chilly there and the bracelets are done except for dying and protecting one. I'm replacing one of the bands with my watch however because I'd like to know once and for all how many calories I burn doing this half marathon.
Oh and I don't have the right color shoes but a. I wear these running shoes all year (and they're not cheap) and b. I'm not wearing day-glo yellow shoes for a year (I don't think even Gordon would - his are more of a goldenrod color). And my hair is going to be the normal length, but in a ponytail.
I'm definitely looking forward to this race - it's the fourth half marathon I've done and it was time to be a little silly. Fundraising for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is still going on but at least the minimum has been raised.

I thought of you yesterday, Mel. I was at a Wal-Mart out of town, killing time, and I walked through their Entertainment section. Since it was a bigger store than the one in my town, they had a lot of TV on DVD season sets and complete series. I saw the first two seasons of THE WILD WILD WEST and thought of you. Maybe you should treat yourself to it in 2018.

Right now I'm reading my "Thunderbirds: The Vault" 50th anniversary book. Quite fascinating honestly to read how they did all the marionettes and put those series together as well as the inspiration for many of the characters' looks in all the shows. Of course, my favorite is how near perfect the Troy Tempest ("Stingray") puppet looks like James Gardner. Him and John in "Thunderbirds" (based on Charlton Heston, and here particularly the puppet, not the CGI form) are the two you can almost readily identify with their inspirations. Oh and as far as the marathon weekend, it was fun and I had fun dressing up in my Hawaiian shirt and other gear. Plan on wearing it agai next year, though I'm a. not including the yellow undershirt (got a bit warm, and the reason - yellow edged sleeves - kept falling down) and b. wear the singlet under the shirt and keep the Hawaiian one open. Already registered for this upcoming St. Jude Half Marathon, which will be the first weekend in December.

We would have been great geek friends had we grown up together...LOL I just looked up "Thunderbirds: The Vault" 50th anniversary book, and from the inside pages displayed on Amazon, it looks like another Thunderbirds book I already have. I must dig that one out to compare, I may be buying the anniversary book also, thanks for mentioning it. "Troy Tempest ("Stingray") puppet looks like James Gardner".It's Garner, Mel...a typo I'm sure. The current issue of Filmfax magazine has an interesting article on Peter Dyneley that voiced Jeff Tracy. The writer dug up good info on Dyneley's career, and interviewed his daughter and son. It might be of interest to you.

From what I heard the 50th anniversary book could also be seen as an annual for TB, except it also includes the other shows done in Supermarionation as well as the live action shows ("Space: 1999," "UFO"). The guy who voiced Virgil for the second series of the puppet version of the series died a couple of weeks ago, so the original voice actors for Scott (Shane Rimmer), Alan (Matt Zimmerman), and Gordon (David Graham) are the only ones left alive from the original. Graham also voiced Parker and Brains in the original, and now reprises Parker for "Thunderbirds are Go." Personally I like both versions of the show, though feel the CGI take on the characters at least have them designed more realistically. Scott and Alan are confirmed oldest and youngest in both the original and "TAG" versions, but in the original series, Alan's sculpt makes him look older than Gordon. In fact, based on the puppet heads only and without research at the time, I had John and Gordon as the fourth and fifth brothers (in that order), with the other three Scott, Alan and Virgil. What makes this immensely funny is that John supposedly was going to be the hero/oldest brother, but Gerry Anderson hated the sculpt and voice. It's why you see him do one rescue and he's rarely earthbound to begin with. (In fairness, I think they have done much better with Alan and John in TAG - Alan looks youngest without being a kid and John has a softer look and a better voice - Thomas Brodie Sangster.)

They didn't believe me...LOL

I knew Shane Rimmer was still alive, but wasn't sure about anyone else. I remember sitting with friends at the theater for Superman II telling them Shane Rimmer was the voice of Scott. They didn't believe me...LOL One thing I've found really funny with Rimmer in the Thunderbirds series is he's the voice on the radio of the Sentinel in "Terror in New York City." This is the episode Virgil is shot down by missiles fired from the ship. SO... you have Scott's voice (done a bit more menacing, but clearly him) telling them to shoot down the "unidentified object" ... while you have Scott trying to keep his brother conscious enough to land TB2 on Tracy Island and get help. Of course it did surprise me Graham was the voice of Brains and Gordon as well as Parker. While Brains and Gordon do sound similar (save Brains stutters and Gordon has a slight drawl in his voice)... Parker doesn't compared to the other two. David Menkin, who voices Virgil and Gordon in the 2015 CGI version, has done pretty good at keeping Gordon a bit closer to how he sounded in '65.
