I don't think any movie could recapture the magic of the TV series unless they reunited William Katt, Robert Culp and Connie Selleca. But it would be worth checking out.

I feel more comfortable that SJC has a hand in this movie though than some of the other productions I've seen of TV shows being turned into movies - because he knows his show whereas other producers have ignored the show's history. Plus, SJC knows the characters and will know if someone is cast that doesn't fit the scenario. It'll be different without Katt, Culp and Sellecca in the main roles, but it can be a good or bad thing based on what the updated version of the show ends up being. And, from the sound of things they're all going to appear in the movie in cameos at least.

It will be an update/upgrade/remake/reboot. Since there's Cannell behind, I bet some of the old magic would be there as well. "Some". Both ways, magic or disaster, new generations will re-discover RALPH. The DVD sets are out of there...

I was watching this show called the Mentalist, and I think Simon Barker would make a great Ralph. I've been observing him and I think he has the look.

I think he looks flaky.
I think Michael Weatherly might pull it off.

If he was a decent actor, he wouldn't be in a ripped off show from another network. oops, in my sleep deprived state I clicked modify by mistake. Sorry HD.

I don't think the new actors have to "look" a specific way (blond, for example). We are used to Katt being in the role, but the person playing the role doesn't have to be Katt's twin, if you know what I mean.
He just has to be Ralph - idealistic, liberal, a little goofy in a lovable way...
Just like Bill doesn't have to look like Culp or whatnot. He just has to be older, and be Bill... and Pam doesn't have to look like Connie...
etc etc

If he was a decent actor, he wouldn't be in a ripped off show from another network. What ripped off show is that? I've watched The Mentalist since it's premiere months ago. There was nothing on TV even close to this until Lie to Me made it's debut on FOX a few weeks back. Even that is not the same, similar in some ways but not a total copy. I hope you don't think The Mentalist is a copy of NBC's Medium. The character is not a medium. He has no power (except the power of observation)whatsoever as the character on the NBC show.

'm not saying he does have to look like WK. I've been watching the show, (found it by accident) and fell in love with it. As I watched I could just see him in that situation. It made me laugh. that's what counts. (and being cute doesn't hurt either )

The Mentalist seems to be a rip off of "Psyche", but he's not as annoying goofy as the psych guys.
For the first time ever, I find myself disagreeing with Jo. I do think the characters in the GAH movie should attempt to capture the looks of the original stars. I do think Ralph should have blond hair, Maxwell should be older (and drop dead handsome--although that's hard to find), and Connie have dark hair. It's a remake of the original show, so it would be awkward for me if the main characters didn't resonate at all with the characters the movie is based on.

I think too that the cast should have similar traits as the three from the original series - Ralph blonde hair (wavy or curly if possible, but not necessarily), Bill older and handsome, and Pam have dark hair (even if it's not black like Connie's is). But, there is another potential consideration we have to think about - what if - and I do stress the if, they decide to do it similar to MortimerWest's script he wrote and the suit actually goes to someone else? In that case, the trio would probably still appear as their original counterparts to help out the new wearer a little and a new team would be created. Of course, I would rather it be a Ralph, Pam and Bill story if they do make the movie, but this day and age, who knows? I just hope that they do not pull a "Wild, Wild West" and try to make it overly slapstick/parody, or make it a dark story. Real life situations are not always dark, and that was effectively shown in the series.

Scenario: In a remake of a show like Superman, the main actor would most probably have to resemble the original cartoon character. Dark, straight hair is almost a must.
But GAH really doesn't have the same brand recognition - for lack of a better term? - as Superman does. People recognize a guy awkwardly standing in a silly red suit. Maybe they remember he's a blond. Maybe.
Stick a blond in Superman's suit? You know it's not Superman...
For your average Movie-Goer, the physical isn't going to matter as much as HOW they play the parts.
Just being blond doesn't make you Katt. Being older [and handsome] doesn't make you Culp.
For example, I could see someone like Samuel L. Jackson playing the hard a$$ FBI agent role. I personally find few physical similarities between Culp and Jackson, but I could see SLJ pulling it off. Just as much as I could see Richard Dean Anderson doing it...
Or I could also see a Will Smith playing the suit wearer. (Although he may be a little too old at this point... but imagine him in his younger years. I can see it.) Again, few physical similarities, but he could pull off the role. He's got the lovable personality to be Ralph, and can play up quirky if he has to... and that's what matters.
To be honest, if they try too hard to get the physical things the same, chances are they are going to not get the spirit right. And that to me would be much more disappointing than seeing a guy or a gal with brown hair in the suit.
Pam? It doesn't matter what she looks like, except that she should be attractive. What is more important is that she is a smart, clever, witty woman with a career and the guts to be part of the team.
We all know the movie is not going to have the same feel, anyway. They can't reproduce the late 70s/early 80s kitsch that GAH had. If they try, it will be slapstick. They will no doubt spend more than $1.98 on the special effects. Yet many of us seem to want to hold onto the original series - characters and all.
Unfortunately, once they redo it, it's going to be a whole different animal.

I have to agree with Jo on this one. It's how they play that's important. Granted, I think we will all feel let down that it is not our guys (and girl), but I think as long as the chemistry and story are good...it could work. I think the traits need to be the same if not the physical resemblance.
Greenguy: Mona is right. It is ripped off PSYCH off the USA Network. It is just considered a drama more than the other one. Personally, I like the comedic aspect better, but the overall idea is the same.

Hey, GG,
The white guy on Psyche pretends to have psychic abilities because what he really does is notice things in a kind of supernatural way, and deduce things from them. So, he created this hokey idea to be considered a "psychic" instead of just do what he does like the Mentalist. It's the same gig, though, on both shows.
I do not think Samuel L Jackson would make a good Bill at ALL, sorry to say, Jo--where's the vulnerability in Jackson?; nor tall, broad, athletic Will Smith as Ralph. I guess we have different opinions on this matter.
