It seems that cross-overs are the going thing...maybe that is why they canceled the show...not enough original ideas coming to the minds of the writers.

I WOULD be writing purely GAH stories IF I could put some plots together. Therein lies my whole problem: I can't put the plots together. My brain just does not want to work out the intricacies of building the plot & creating bad guys. (Another thing I'm not good at: creating characters.) *sigh* Otherwise, I'd have atleast a half dozen by now...

My brain just does not want to work out the intricacies of building the plot & creating bad guys. (Another thing I'm not good at: creating characters.) *sigh* Otherwise, I'd have atleast a half dozen by now... Eh, make it up as you go along. I've done that many times and have received great reviews. The fanfic that I consider my very best work, "Sonnets in the Dark" (MASH), had that happen. I wrote one little line, got thinking, had something happen and the whole thing really blossomed. Just from Charles thinking he had all the time in the world to read his letter from his sister. Boy, was he wrong! My problem right now, with "Lilacs III" is the filler between first and final chapters, lol... just a little thing like that. Maybe after the Minnow reunion, I can do a cheapshot and say, Okay, Eight months later.... but that's be a copout on my part. I don't mean to make light of how I write my stories. I visualize very well (too well sometimes), and I usually know how I want the story to START at least, so I start typing it in and I get carried away, and VOILA! there's a plot (okay, if i'm lucky, there's a plot). Maybe you could try your hand at a "Missing Scenes" story; those are cool cuz you have a definite beginning and ending to them, no serious plot needed (seeing as you're working off the plot and action in the existing storyline). Or else an alternate-universe (although you wouldn't want to get too carried away with this, or the readers'll get annoyed), where you think, Okay, what IF such-and-such hadn't happened, but THIS instead? And work from that. I also enjoy "after the credits" fics (as in my Lilacs II, which picks up where the ep left off). I think my favorite Trek writer, Ster J on ff.net, coined that phrase with her ATC's of Star Trek eps. But that, too, has the essential plot already worked out for you; you can create a new one as you go, after you wrap up the ep a bit more (and let's face it, there're too many TV show episodes that are practically left hanging, making you scream What? Is that IT??) Hope these ideas help you bring something to fruition. I hope I haven't offended you by telling you the painfully obvious; I'm not sure where you're at with regards to reading and/or writing fanfic.

I hope I haven't offended you by telling you the painfully obvious; I'm not sure where you're at with regards to reading and/or writing fanfic. No problem. I've actually written well over 100 fics scattered over several fandoms, but the ONE thing that always does me in: the infamous writer's block. That's what happens with my plots. I have several stories started... but can't think of where to go with them. I just need some jumper cables for my brain.

OK, this looks like fun...so I gotta try it. I'm thinking of doing a fanfic. My idea is a Hunter/GAH/Hardcastle crossover. I have to re-watch a few Hunter episodes to get the facts straight, but I think its do-able. I'm thinking of a trial involving Pam (cross-examining before Judge Hardcastle) in a case involving a mixup in jurisdictional boundaries (Bill & Hunter). Hmmmmm. My how the ideas flow when its slow at work an you have access to a computer!

I'd like to read that, and I'll trust you on the Hunter and H&Mc sides, seeing as I don't know either series. Sounds like a good start though, esp. the jurisdictional dispute, lol! I can see Bill involved in something like that! Is this going to be during Palmer Bradshaw's tenure as Bill's boss, seeing as he brought up the question of jurisdiction himself? (In case you don't remember, and I'm sure you do, but that's from "Best Desk Scenario.")

Where's this elusive fanfic roundrobin I've seen mentioned on the board? I tried searching "round robin" and "roundrobin" with no luck. I was wondering if I could pick it up where it left off, see if we can get it swinging again. tgah.proboards43.com/index.cgi?board=show&action=display&thread=1110148239I have to admit, it's my fault this thread died. I promise to stay out of the next one, if only due to time constraints.

I promise to stay out of the next one, if only due to time constraints. I actually liked your last post on it, MyTatuo, before you deleted it. I've been trying to start it up again myself for awhile, but haven't had any luck. My post (which is where it's frozen on, and per rules, I can't move) was based on what I saw (only the first season) at the time, so that might not have helped either. But, if someone's wanting to get it started up again and something I wrote is causing a problem, PM me and I'll see if I can rework it.

I would love to play, but I think I get too easily confused by what has happened. Especially since mytatuo erased his posting, I think I am missing something vital to the little episode. I don't suppose someone could make it easy on someone stupid like me and recap it from start to finish and then let us newbies come aboard?

I don't suppose someone could make it easy on someone stupid like me and recap it from start to finish and then let us newbies come aboard? I guess the best thing to do is to read it from start to finish. What MyTatuo posted didn't make sense with what Ralph saw in the (bad guys) ship, which would alter the story if it continued. He wrote that in the Spaceship that Bill argues that something happened to the Earth in that, while it had not been destroyed, something did happen because everyone felt an earthquake or along those lines. Instead, Utah had been covered from all four boundaries with something that made it's present day nonexistent (looked kinda like the west). There had been a scientist who was sent to see what was going on with only that state being affected, and he disappeared. But, the posting he used said that what Ralph saw was an illusion of what would happen if he didn't hand over the suit to the other green guys, so it was a contradiction. He deleted it because of this. (Man, this was a few months ago, and I remember that but not the correct words to the "Star Trek" theme ).

Anyway, the story so far, is that Ralph has the day off and decides to go to a comic store when there is a burglary. He goes and saves the day in his jammies, inadvertantly destroying the comic owner's window when he crashes through it.
He goes into the alley and there is a green guy wearing a black suit. He kidnaps Ralph by beaming them both up into the ship, and Ralph wakes up to find himself in a slightly worn down version of the ship. A green guy, Dr. Torus, says that he is the creator of the suit. He claims that the suit Ralph wears was given to him by a group of rogue green guys, even changing the color to red (which is to his distaste). He says that he needs the suit Ralph is wearing.
Back on Earth, the bad guys are handcuffed and put into a car (based on "Adam-12") One of the bad guys (named Fokus) turns into a green guy then into a doppelganger of Ralph Hinkley, who blows up the car and flies out of there. A reporter catches the action on film.
On the ship, Ralph asks why the green guys need the suit, and what would they do if he refuses. The green guy says that they couldn't harm him and let it slip that they couldn't harm Pam or Bill (foreshadowing), but they had a plan to kill their neighbors to the east (Not the next door neighbors) To Ralph's horror, he sees the Earth explode and the green guy says that what he saw was an illusion of what would happen if he didn't give them the suit. Ralph says he'll think about it, and gets beamed back down to Earth.
Ralph heads back to the house and gives the low down to Pam and Bill. They get into the car, where the good green guys dedicate "Eve of Destruction" to Ralph and bring them to Palmdale, where they are all beamed up into the ship for a meeting with the green guys.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the comic strip owner, who found out Ralph's address from his wallet, heads over to the house to talk with him about what the owner saw. Instead of it being Ralph, it's Fokus. Fokus tries to play off what the owner saw, but after he refuses to believe Fokus, "Ralph" decides to take him on a flight. While in the air, Fokus threatens the owner and says he has an offer for him, or the owner could fall to his death.
This is where the story ends right now. (I sound like the announcer from "Soap.") Hope this helps HD, and as I said, I can tweak what I wrote if needed to get it back into circulation.
(You're also right, HD, the computer does get contrite if you post too soon between postings ;D)

Thanks...I appreciate that. I thought I understood it right, but was unsure. I have one question though: How/Why did Fokus go back to Ralph's home? Does he know Ralph won't be there or is he hoping Ralph is there?

Thanks...I appreciate that. I thought I understood it right, but was unsure. I have one question though: How/Why did Fokus go back to Ralph's home? Does he know Ralph won't be there or is he hoping Ralph is there? It's never been posted exactly how he knows, but Ralph, Pam and Bill were beamed into the ship before the posting of the owner at Ralph's house and "Ralph" was there. I guess it's one of those "GAH" mysteries. I have an idea on how that will work out, and that would have been my next move but MyTatuo's removed his post, so I was frozen.

Summed up very well, except for a point or two:
Not the destruction of the entire Earth, nor Utah, but Arizona (baby Kasidy does not recognise the word "Fee-nicks" from the TV. Also not actual destruction, as alluded to by the original Greenguys in my post that was deleted.)
Fokus does think that toying with the comic book store owner would tide him over until Ralph, Pam or Bill show up, so it doesn't seem like their whereabouts are known to Fokus. (Unless MelMac has a better idea.)
I did not mean to kill the thread by deleting the post, rather the opposite, but no one stepped up to put it back on track. If we're starting over (probably best, but who am I to judge) that would be fine.
... of course, if anyone likes my idea... I'm putting the post back! Feel free to drop in your piece too, MelMac.

Thanks for clearing that up MyTatuo. Not too bad from my memory considering that post was originally from March. I assumed that Fokus knew about the home from your post before mine, and I plan on using it in the next leg somehow. I'll have to work on it, and it might not be posted for a couple of days, but I can move again. Thanks for bringing it back.

Well, although it's announced in the tickertape (thanks mods ), we've finished the GAH interactive game thread. I will be writing a short summary of it so it's a bit easier to follow, given some of the banter HD and I put into the thread.

I also posted an epilogue (HA! I can do that! I'm a MODERATOR!) Anywho, the thread is now locked for posterity, but any comment for the authors (past and present) are welcome here, as well as the little epilogue mentioned above. And how about some ideas for a new story thread?
